I think it depends alot on WHY he was an ex, as well. If there was an issue that caused you to need to take a step back and he was a big enough man to acknowledge that your concerns were valid and actually truly work on his shit with honesty and humility and gain some introspection, that speaks alot to his character. I wouldn't include cheating or abuse in this at all. Those are a totally different level of toxic. But I do think that people are capable of acknowledging their personal weaknesses …
