This has been happening since I was around 11 or 12. I got facial hair (even if just a little) relatively young, and I was around 5'6"-5'8" at the time. Women would constantly cross the street, walk the opposite way, or shield their children from me, even if the "child" was older than me.

They are super soldiers, but they aren't just created. There were no playable female Spartans up until Halo 3, in Halo 3 the "female" Spartans were just the male Spartan model with a female voice. In Halo: Reach (and soon to be Halo 4) there are full playable female Spartans (Voice and character model).
