I don't know, for I rarely follow the news about South America in general, I do know that violence is as bad in Paraguay (I go there for PC hardware), but almost non-existent in Uruguay. The rest of SA, I really don't know. Here, in Brazil, violence is bad on almost all capitals and big cities, manageable in medium cities (less than 1mi pop), and comes and goes in waves in small cities (I my old town, there was a crime wave every year, despite having only 3k people).
