For some reason redditers don't seem to understand what precedence is. When you want to change something that is an established way of doing things, the burden and responsibility for proving that it is harmful and needs to change falls to the shoulders of the party that is seek to change things. ​ So *yes*, you do need to make a well formed and logical argument against it. I’ll check out that article and probably read up on Dr. Kellogg too. A major difference between FGM and circumcision, seems to be the age at which is is done. Circumcision can be done a day or 2 after birth where FGM isn’t until girls are well within the age of memory and has a lot of risks associated with it. Nobody circumcises baby girls. Maybe some small subcultures do, akin to the Chinese foot-binding or the ancient neck extension thing… but that’s not comparable to male circumcision which has been done for thousands of years across many cultures. I’d only even heard of labioplasty about 8 months ago. But that is grown women.

I appreciate that! I agree that the subject post seems pretty fucked up. Doing it to every boy at 7-9 years old… I definitely know that not all my peers at that age would have agreed to do it. My family represents the most hated group in this country so I’m sure the knowledge about that would color peoples opinion on our approval of circumcision.

I understand your position regarding consent. Although personally, I would’ve been pissed if my parents didn’t do it when I was a baby, and couldn’t remember the pain and recovery, and had to have it done myself once I was older. As a 28M, with 2 brothers, 4 uncles, dozens of male cousins, etc… I can say that we were unanimously circumcised after birth as babies, and none of us feel the way you do about. No negative effects whatsoever. No traumatic memories No disfigurement The argument against it is utterly illogical to me. I agree that it’s a personal choice as a parent, but it’s purely a matter of preference.

Help me out here. I don’t get this. I was circumcised, so were my brothers, and all male family members, dad, grandpa, cousins, etc. It wasn’t some psychotic thing like these people are describing. Why is this such an issue? It literally didn’t do any long term damage.

I was homeschooled until the 4th grade. I 100% will be home schooling my children. That’s been my certainty since I was a kid. Schools were designed for girls. It’s not the states duty to educate, it’s my duty as a parent
