Here’s the reason it does matter. the boyfriend has the potential to be a stranger, he has no obligation to the child besides being a decent human being to her. The mother gave birth to her, she’s supposed to protect her and be there for her especially in times like this. Being related does matter because it adds an extra layer of betrayal that the poor little girl will have to deal with later in life
