I wasn't trying to compare which activity is better, my point is that neither makes any difference to how accepted someone feels by society. Sure you can feel satisfied and accomplished from growing loads of carrots or leveling up a lot of times, but when you go out into the world and everyone still treats you like a loser unworthy of their attention, you won't be thinking "maybe I should have spent more time singing to my carrots".

It's nice to imagine that people can satsify their needs by engaging in self-care and individual projects. Growing vegetables is no different from spending hours playing video games in this sense. In reality, people desire for validation from society and peers, especially men who are taught that their worth depends on success.

It's not directly about the sex, rather the validation it gives. Women get a disproportionate amount of sexual/romantic attention (whether they like it or not, unfortunately). While unwanted attention can have its negative effects, consistently receiving none at all slowly but surely chips away at a man's self-worth. Financial success can provide a form of validation for both men and women, but of course for working class men this also isn't present.

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
