The problem here was, you are a man and you were honest about the reasons.... If you had made up some false crazy story of why you want to break up, no one would have said anything. Unfortunately, that's the world we live in... We are not allowed to be honest men.

Dude, I was in this exact situation the only difference is I was never in an accident and I got punches on my chest and slaps on the face... and for a long time that is what I exactly thought 'She’s my best friend and main confidant.' and according to her she had her fair share of trauma and mental issues.
