Higher earner afraid of losing big in divorceSorry, it is absolutely both. If your partner / spouse is jeopardizing your financial heath, it is not good. Woke up every day checking the acct to see if she overran it 'again'. Needs vs wants is an important marital topic. My job requires squeaky clean credit. She deferred the finality knowing it would gain .5 years alimony for ever year married. That is going to cost me an extra 120k post tax. | /r/Divorce_Men | 16/08/25 06:09 AM
Higher earner afraid of losing big in divorcei was higher earner with a financially illiterate spouse and could not take it any longer and had to pull the trigger as the alimony liability goes up by the year. i make more (higher gross to her)the duration gets longer... separation is not a good idea for the higher earner | /r/Divorce_Men | 16/08/25 06:01 AM

Higher earner afraid of losing big in divorcegood for you. i lost 50%, got screwed with alimony and still pat child support to the ex even though said child lives away at college which i also fund more than the ex. | /r/Divorce_Men | 16/08/25 05:46 AM

Higher earner afraid of losing big in divorceadd to it the longer you stay, the longer you pay. Many states are .5 yrs alimony for the first 20 years with the possibility of life after 20. | /r/Divorce_Men | 16/08/25 05:42 AM
Higher earner afraid of losing big in divorcekids are equally impacted by loveless marriages riddled with acrimony, disrespect, contention and resentmet. No reason to marry in modern times if a higher earner. Inviting the legal system into your life is a bad idea. | /r/Divorce_Men | 16/08/25 05:40 AM
Higher earner afraid of losing big in divorcenot so simple if one cannot buy the other one out. divorces are snowflakes | /r/Divorce_Men | 16/08/25 05:37 AM
Higher earner afraid of losing big in divorcewent into mediation. ex decided she was not having it, and we wasted 5k + on those sessions when she admitted she did not intend to negotiate at all after the fact. court mandated mediation is bs. I proposed 3 scenarios and her response was far worse than any statuatory award each time. Mediator was a former judge and useless imo for not pointing this out. | /r/Divorce_Men | 16/08/25 05:36 AM
Higher earner afraid of losing big in divorcehigher earners are short straw recipients from the tax perspective post 2019. not sure on the 2025 changes. boiled down to not having any say in a spouses financial incompetence perpetually overrunning accts, lack of discipline vs the pain of alimony and child support, plus losing a house in an up market where i cannot afford a replacement. Rarely having to deal with said spouse made it worth it. | /r/Divorce_Men | 16/08/25 05:29 AM
