Speaking only on the part of the post about "Hitch": This movie is really just a clusterfuck of conflicting advice. In spite of the underlying bullshit premise of the movie, there are moments that are good. The BS premise is basically that while having game is helpful, if you just be yourself there's no telling who will love you just the way you are. Further, it implies that game is only honorable if you use it in pursuit of your One True Love. Otherwise you're a misogynist pig. And yet, there a…

This is a great post. Not all compensation is money. If I could work a 4-day, 32 hour work week for 80% of the same pay, I would seriously consider it. In the aggregate, women have basically taken their ball and gone home already. There are jobs they won't do, hours they won't work, and lifestyle sacrifices they won't make. And God bless them, in America they get to make that choice. I'm with you, I think men and women are both getting not just what they've earned, but what they've demonstrated …

I always thought this was crazy. Corporations are the greediest bastards of all human organizations, existing solely for profit no matter who they hurt along the way. They are willing to throw Americans out on their asses so they can have a bunch of 3rd-worlders do the same job for $10/day, but somehow they aren't willing to replace male employees with equally capable female employees for a payroll savings of roughly 25% because they are THAT committed to upholding the patriarchy. It's nonsense.…

I look at it this way: A man should honor his word. That's alpha, that's honorable. The question is whether you should be available at the drop of a hat for someone. If someone else expects you to jump to action or inconvenience yourself because they are being cavalier about respecting your time, there's nothing wrong with telling them to fuck off. If someone has earned your trust and is making a big request, it's your call. Being available to rescue your buddy whose car broke down 2 hours away …

It's so painfully obvious that I'm glad the company was smart enough to figure it out and I'm surprised not surprised to find out that the SJW's were too dumb to get the basic premise at work here: If you don't care about having a fit body, you aren't their customers anyway! Why the fuck would they care what a fatass thinks about their product to help you be fit? Expertly played by the company. Their customer base is nearly universally a subset of women who have made fitness a priority, or who w…

I think you are right that we're probably looking at a 1975 solution to a 1975 problem through a 2015 lens. In the modern era of an overly litigious society and large organizations being forced into risk-averse postures in every situation, I think the modern solution is to do everything possible to shift the forum for adjudicating crime to the actual criminal system. And while I agree with you that "real" court is not all it should be, you certainly have some rights there that are difficult to e…

My baby will be born any day now, and I feel roughly the same way you do. Reminds me of the old line that "Men love women, women love babies, kids love dogs." I've heard it told as a joke, but I think it's basically true. I think the antidote to this is that you have to unapologetically live your life for yourself. That doesn't mean to intentionally piss people off, but it does mean that you have to consider the desires of your own heart first. Man was meant to be active and productive. I strugg…

I understand why there needs to be a University judicial process for things like academic honesty, and even potentially for mischief from campus groups/individuals that perhaps doesn't rise to the level of criminal but causes a problem. However, I have no idea why a University would even want to get involved in investigating allegations that, if true, would be felonies. If I'm a University, I'm shifting that entire responsibility to law enforcement, both for CYA reasons and because they are actu…

Given that my wife is about 2 months away from giving birth to our first, I admit that I have been trying to figure this dynamic out with reasonable but not continuous success. If she went grocery shopping, it's legitimate for me to get up from what I'm doing and carry the bags into the house at her request. She's pregnant and shouldn't be carrying heavy loads up and down stairs. If she gets on me for not organizing the closet correctly in our nursery (yes, this really happened. The unworn cloth…

I don't know exactly what you mean by "everlasting", but I certainly agree with your articulation of the idea that we can't all be above-average. This sub, as I understand it, is dedicated to understanding the 80/20 dynamic, and learning how to fight like hell to be in the upper echelon.

This makes perfect sense. When everyone knows who the leader is, things run smoothly unless everyone knows who the leader is and then the leader fails to lead. The crew generally knows what needs to be done but in the absence of leadership they are going to spin their wheels, make their own priorities, and occasionally bug the shit out of the captain. I think this is a great reminder that part of being RP in marriage is that you need to carry your own weight by being self-motivated and taking ch…

I'm not convinced beta and alpha are hereditary (although some attributes are definitely contributors to living an alpha life). I mean hell, if it is, why are we all here? The lesson of this sub is that men can mentally reconfigure on the fly, and adapt to the most successful outlooks and strategies for the current world as we know it. If your beta past doesn't have to be your future, neither does your beta dad as far as I'm concerned.

This is as close to honesty regarding AF/BB as you'll ever get from the typical woman. First I've seen of this specific post, but I think most of us who are "Recovering Betas" recall being told some version of this by a girl we thought we could superfriend our way into having sex with us. She's flat-out telling men that she wants bad boys early on and a good guy to sit and wait until he's 30-35 for her to get the partying out of her system. It sucks, but deal with it because you'll be lucky enou…

Yeah, I mean it's a sub-optimal situation to have 2 people both making $10/hour relying on each other to keep up a standard of living, but I guess my point is really that you can make it in this country even if you have to start at the bottom. Get a cheap place and a decent roommate (or three) and start working hard. EDIT: One of my favorite living situations I've ever had was with 5 guys living together in a fantastic 5BR house. $400/month rent is not much to work with, but 5x400 = $2000/month …

I'm not going to disagree with your points about Chicago, but now you're telling me that you have to live in Chicago because you aren't willing to live in cheaper locations for what sound like both career and lifestyle reasons. That's a perfectly fine choice, but that's on you. The draw of big city life attracts so many people to such a small area that basic economics makes housing more expensive. Chicago is the biggest city in America after NYC and LA. I think my point stands that if you're wil…

A roommate accomplishes the same task. I wasn't assuming this fictional person is married to the other fictional person. When I was just out of college, my roommate and I were able to live the good life and looking back, neither one of us made shit for money, we were just frugal, shared big expenses for common items, and we hadn't experienced lifestyle inflation yet since we were young.

Yes, the math has really changed. My dad worked a job in the summer for 3 months that basically paid his school for the next 9. Wash, rinse, repeat x 4 years and you've got a degree with no debt and good job prospects.

Chicago is kind of cherry-picking my point. Chicago is obviously in its own category in the midwest given that its size is on par with the coastal cities everyone thinks of as being big and expensive. I'm thinking of places like Ohio, Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, etc. I can't speak to prices in Chicago, no experience in that market.

The thing of it is, I agree with your assessment that we're going back to a new normal that's sort of the same as the old normal, but at the same time it's still an amazing time to be alive, and an amazing place to be alive. $10/hour isn't a great job, but it's $1600/month full time (gross, obv.). Let's say you only take home $1200. That's not a ton of money, but pair a couple of people together and now you've got $2400/month to take home. You can live in a decent place, have machines do most of…

Yeah, East Coast & West Coast major metros have crazy pricing. God bless the midwest where as long as you don't have to live in the nicest part of the nicest suburb in your city or in a downtown loft, you can buy 4BR, 2000+ SqFt houses for less than $100k. Edit: And to address the main thrust of your post, I don't really understand why the Boomers are so reluctant to allow for the fact that young people have it hard. It doesn't invalidate your life's work to acknowledge that it's hard out there …

This woman is 50 years old; she never grew the fuck up.. And she calls my generation "entitled" and "selfish". The irony of it all… I've always thought this is incredible. As a guy who is almost 30, I'm constantly hearing about how entitled my generation is, but invariably I'm hearing that from people who earned a pretty fantastic living doing jobs that no longer exist at an astronomically high "wage-to-education required" ratio the likes of which can't be found anywhere in modern day America. I…

While I'm married and therefore immune to most of those silly comments about peter pan complex, I completely agree with your assessment. I think a lot of people make these sorts of comments from a place of resentment. If you're a single, fun-loving and fun-having man, you are thumbing your nose at their life decisions. Your life looks like a lot more fun than theirs, so they have to either accept that it's possible they fucked up or they have to find a way to undermine your lifestyle. Chiding yo…

Since finding TRP, I've found that I see my negotiations more clearly than in the past. Less idealistic, more realistic. People aren't all evil, but nearly all of them act in their own self-interest even if it means bending their ethics. I feel like I can predict how people will behave. I'm surprised much less often. The other thing I've noticed about my approach is that my managerial style has become more bold. I'm not an asshole now, but I'm much more likely to call the team meeting, tell ever…

$180k per year to raise a single kid? Dare I say, that's...ludicrous. I can't tell what's more shocking, that she asked for that much or that the judge saw through it and actually flipped the custody decision. $4k/month in child support would still be a crazy high amount, more than a huge number of people make in their jobs each year., and yet it's only about a quarter of her request. Unbelievable. Good on that judge.

As someone who only barely remembers intro to philosophy, thanks for introducing me to a new fallacy. I would have guessed that this at least contains components of Begging the Question in that it is assumed from the beginning that a feminist is defined by belief in equal rights, a premise which remains thoroughly unproven by this juvenile exchange.

Even the classes that suck contribute to your GPA which is the single number by which you will be judged as a HS grad, especially if you aspire to college. There are pointless classes and terrible teachers, but none of that shows up in the number. When you find yourself dreading a class or some homework, you just have to remind yourself that it's just a piece of the puzzle that can't be skipped. Our phrase for this growing up was "check the box." As in, "to get to where you want to go, there's a…

I think online dating has its place, especially when you consider that once you have a profile set up it has the potential to produce a zero-effort lead for you. The best part about online dating is that it allows you to scale the numbers game. A 1% hit rate online can yield more leads than a 20% hit rate at the bar.

I'd be shocked if this has never been tried, but maybe it hasn't? Makes me thankful that I'm not in that situation. Must be infuriating. Can't think of much worse than being defrauded and having to pay for the privilege even after everyone knows what happened.

At some point the protection of the children should be overtaken by the rights of the father to say, "Not my kid, not my problem." I mean, it would be in any kid's best interest to force Bill Gates to pay child support, but we don't because he's not their dad. At some point even the "best interest of the child" gets (or should get) trumped by common sense application of responsibility. There's no way of thinking about it that makes supporting someone else's kids against your will a good thing. T…

5'7" or 8" checking in. I don't think it's fair to call it a preoccupation, but to the extent it is, it's because if you are below a certain height, your height becomes your defining "first impression" physical characteristic even if it is not necessarily an abnormal height. Further, it's really the only male trait that can be easily boiled down to a single, well understood number, which makes it useful as a filter. It's hard to quantify whether a guy is a 6 in looks or an 8 since a lot of taste…

I think this goes beyond frame, beyond "gaming" your wife, beyond any theory. You are with someone who was willing to throw away your life's work to make a point/to see what would happen. When it comes to evaluating your wife as a human being and partner, what else do you need to know? There's no theory needed for this, you know what to do. Even when you accept that we live in an AWALT universe, there's certain lines you don't expect anyone to cross unless they are a true psycho. I'd expect most…

I agree that this is the better option, if possible. However, if he has a lease to rent the house that doesn't expire anytime soon, then I think the best course of action is to do what he did: find roommates to pay rent. He can easily afford the place now that he likely has rent coming from multiple sources instead of having to shoulder the entire burden himself. However, he should have done a proper eviction with notice to ensure he doesn't legally fuck himself.

I think the second. While it's technically an illegal eviction, to make anything of it requires: Her to know that it's illegal and not just shitty of him Her to be mad enough to fight it in court. Her to have the resources to hire a lawyer I am not a lawyer, just a guy who has seen lots of random situations. A good shorthand for legal cases is "Who has more money?" Most of the time, you can count on that person winning. Further, it's pretty hard to be broke and hire an attorney, and it sounds li…

Speaking as a fellow "vanilla" sex person, most of it has less to do with getting weird and more to do with just dictating what happens next. My "game" with my wife got 100% better when I stopped asking about the next position or the next thing I wanted to happen and I started telling her what to do next, or even better, just doing it. Even if things are going great, I sometimes just decide to switch something just so I have a direction to give her, which reinforces that this is an area where I …

Swingers. Must watch Red Pill movie. Young Vince Vaughn and Jon Favreau are best friends in LA (who hit Vegas at one point during the movie). The movie is mostly those two and sometimes their circle of friends hanging out, having fun, trying to pick up chicks, etc. However, the real message of the movie is a beta hitting rock bottom and learning to be alpha from his friend who already gets it. Great movie.

That's how our college worked. Every student paid roughly $100/semester called an "activities fee" and that fee made up the budget for student organizations. Say you had a chapter of an accounting club that wanted to have a meeting on campus with food, drinks, and a speaker. You had to go through the school to reserve the meeting room, and you had to go through the student organization group to request funding for pizza, pop, etc. Could you just pay for the food? Sure. But you felt like, "hey, w…

If the goal is actual warnings, I would suggest word of mouth is still the best way to do this. If the goal is just to stir the pot at your university of choice, then feel free to post a list but be aware that the "shitstorm" you acknowledge is real and will be swift and there will be a literal manhunt to figure out who did this. You are definitely taking University Expulsion levels of risk by engaging in this, if not lawsuits and/or harassment charges. Not saying I wouldn't consider it myself i…

This went a whole other direction than what I was thinking about, mostly the context for OP's girlfriend. I agree that groups that align with "identity politics" tend to be particularly unforgiving when someone matches their identity but not their politics. I think feminism does this quite a bit, but you'll notice it everywhere if you look. A lot of people are irrationally uncomfortable when they see that others are making different choices, especially what we might call non-traditional life choices. Whether that's choosing to stay single, choosing not to have kids, eschewing high-power careers in favor of something you prefer... Lots of people have a lot to say about people who don't make the life choices they did.

I think a lot of people ultimately get caught up in fighting about fiat vs. "hard" currency (e.g. gold/silver). I suppose now we can add e-currencies to that debate. Ultimately, a person needs to secure food, water, shelter, physical security, etc. If you think bitcoin helps you secure your future, whether because it is a better currency or just because it diversifies your currency risk, I don't have a problem with it. Financial matters are about managing resources, and part of managing resource…
