I worked a child custody case. Dad was in the military and lived in Hawaii. The mom was being a shitty mother. Did surveillance on the house and found out the boyfriend where the mom and 8year old kid were living at was a drug dealer. For this case, again, I’m not directly talking to the clients so I am not sure who hired us. If I had to say, it’d be the company itself through whatever lawyer represents them. For me, I got a 4year degree in criminal justice. I applied online to a bunch of firms and did follow up calls/emails. But I’ve heard investigators that were hired without the degree, but worked their way up through security companies that also have PIs. It helps to have a related job in your work history. In my case, I worked full time security while attending university.
