You're asking how helping people go against gender roles and supporting abused men have anything to do with feminism? If you don't see it I don't think I can do anything here. Yes, they're the face of modern feminism. I'm not saying the opposite. I'm saying that there are active feminists that are not like that. I can understand why I don't matter politically, but to say that any charity us moderate feminists do doesn't count at all because we don't speak against the extremists is quite a stretc…

No, I have donated in support of and personally helped drug addicts and abused espouses (both male and female). On a more personal level I have helped friends pursue careers their parents didn't approve of because they weren't "correct" for their gender (nurses and elementary teachers). What, I have to support equality issues that are "trendy" so it will count?

If you read my comments, I know many feminists that actually do get things done without being extremists, myself included. What, am I supposed to consider this quote tops my experiences? Because it is not speaking of "some" or "most" feminists. It's talking about all of us.

As far as I know, Spain is the same (went there; am part Spanish). In my language "feminism" and "masculism" are synonyms; when we talk of female or male supremacy we use "hembrismo" (hembra=female) and "machismo" (macho=male). The Mexican government keeps issuing these adds about how "Women and children aren't to be touched, even with a rose petal." Plus campaigns showing only battered women, or adds about not sexually harassing your female classmates in university. Personally I know of more ab…

I figure there are much better ways of wasting time than arguing with someone that didn't understand what you meant. Yes, I understand your position. Thanks for the replies.

Not by default, sure, more like, it's just my surroundings. You asked why I thought identifying as a feminist was easier for me--well, it's because that's how things are where I live.

Charles Manson and Ted Bundy? Can you describe closer examples? I feel comparing a spoiled, insensitive girl to those guys is a bit extreme. I understand both manipulate, but I can see girls like that being far more common than cult leaders or serial killers. Are we taking, for instance, deadbeat dads into the equation? Would you take the experiences of an abuse therapist into account? His assertions are the opposite of yours. I don't agree with him either, I always thought the numbers were bala…

I always thought I would be attracted to that sarcastic, mischievous guy everybody hangs out with. I've met a few, but I never felt "butterflies in the stomach". I ended up falling for a shy and sweet man. So there's that. There are certain characteristics, however, that no matter how "desirable" the man is, if he lacks them it's game over for me. No integrity, for instance. Blaming others, fishing for pity... Those are people I can't take seriously enough to date them. So I suppose it's a mix. …

Well, that's because the people I know think of feminism as that movement looking for equality for both sexes, not that third wave crazies nonsense. Here if you're pro-equality people immediately label you as a feminist. I don't see the problem, nor I feel like arguing about that.

Would you say there's a female equivalent to those guys who treated girls as superior? If there is, are they more or in less in quantity? What makes you think that (I'm not sure if there are legit studies for this)?

Regardless of my opinion, your post is no way to start a discussion, nor was that question made in good faith.

Never mind, my skull is thick. If you want to avoid that certain kind of obnoxious person, then it is indeed better to just avoid all feminists, like that bowl of chocolate. Apologies for the time wasted.

Totally agree. Women could be seen as less fragile; men could be seen as not expendable. I don't need to identify myself as a feminist to help against these issues, but I find it easier to say I'm one than begin explaining my way of thinking (not like anyone asks about it...). Someone "threatened" to do the same thing to me. Rest assured the possible victim will think it'll be twice as horrifying as you can ever imagine.

I know you're not part of TRP now, as I said just before I explained who Vox Day was. I'm not accusing you of supporting him/TRP anymore, but I figured you might like to know. I primarily saw those messages on tumblr. There are a few anti SJW's blogs, some run by supporters of feminism. You can see the calling out, albeit it is done in more of a mocking tone. Again, I can't understand why you generalize us. Yes, you were generalized, in their minds stooped to (probably) a rapist's level. But you…

Oh, I assumed you were a RPer. Sorry, my mistake. Vox Day is the guy that runs that blog, Alpha Game Plan. He's a white supremacist, thinks it's productive to throw acid at Muslim women's faces, and his fantasy books suck. Even so, it's been discussed here before: what a few members of the group think doesn't reflect what an individual thinks. In fact, I think that's the gist of the top comment in the other thread where a guy asked why women would want to associate with RPers since they're all r…

Yes, those feminists are the loudest, and their ridiculousness makes it easy to forget about the countless men and women volunteering to make the world a better place for both sexes. Do you type such strange things to see if the receiver's reaction alone would make it worth it? I could relate to that.

Are you aware some people in the RP community brag about beating their wives? You're not those people, I understand, and I'm not saying they're the majority. However I also haven't said such an obnoxious thing about men. So why can you use that phrase against me if I don't believe in it? How would you feel if I began arguing against you because Vox Day thinks that copilot crashed the plane because sluts are picky? I doubt you'd be offended or anything, but you'd see it's not productive at all si…

Ouch. Did she know about the recording part? In that case I don't think the problem is the independence, but her not caring about her partner's wishes. I agree on the first and second points on independence. Mostly because the first seems like common sense, and if mutual it makes the couple's lives easier. The second one too, because you yourself state both should know about each other. About the third, I think you're right, but it's important to keep in mind communication goes both ways and the…

Could you please elaborate? What sort of areas? I don't understand why he had to drive her there. I'm assuming the contractions still were a few hours apart, because otherwise she was in no condition to drive (and in no condition for wait for her husband). She wasn't having the kid for another while. It might have seemed menial to her. And, well, she couldn't call him while driving.

I'm curious about number nine. Could you describe what sort of independence you are talking about? Emotional? Monetary? How independent is too independent? Would you be dependent on her too for anything?

Well, yes. I agree these people wouldn't make for very nice friends. But OP was asking about all feminists, not only the entitled girls with victim complex (or at least that's what I gather from his first post). I think it is unfair that some people automatically think less of a person that identifies as a feminist. If the girl you just met in Tinder begins ranting about your male privilege I think it's more than justified to leave. Call her out, even. I'd applaud you for doing it, but I do not …

I understood the reference. Can I ask you why you advocate beating women, or do you have the right to not support nor want to be associated with RPers that are wife beaters? In the event that you do like hitting women/aren't even a RPer, please do twist the argument a bit so it fits.

By "feminists" I'll be talking about people that self-label as that. You're right about there being some feminists with ridiculous notions. I think it's normal to think that most feminists are like that because wherever you turn to, that's what you find. But have you considered the feminists that don't make noise? There are tons of people that support feminism (and each of them has their definition of it), but don't tell anyone unless asked. To them, feminism is not such a huge deal. They do sma…

OP posted two links. One in which the feminists felt triggered by clapping, and the other one in which feminists feel triggered by people arguing against them in a controlled environment (no threats of being assaulted or grossly insulted). Both of those behaviours seem ridiculous to me. He then proceeded to use this ridiculous behaviour to open his question to the BPers. He didn't mention "rape culture", "toxic male masculinity" (wat), etc. So why are you even bringing this to the table? Do you …

There's always the sane portion. Is that not what I was arguing in my other comment? I don't use tumblr; the comment was a joke.

The tumblr thing is tongue in cheek. If crazy tumblr feminists were 50% of the feminists then I'd agree with you, we're damned. That's one college out of how many? Has a significant proportion of colleges had this issue? Do you believe the entire feminist group in that college required that extra service? Edit: added "crazy" before "tumblr feminists", for clarity.

Would you do something to a girl if she stated it is a hard limit for her? If she told you, for instance, that certain derogatory word hurts her a lot (maybe a bad experience and whatnot), would you not care? I would like to think men that are into degrading sex do care about their partner wishes enough to not do it, and would not only comply because the possibility of losing one plate. Would you think the "women are children" idea applies here, that you could show her how her hard limits are si…

As far as I know, even girls who are into that need the "aftercare". I'd think you need to respect the girl in question, to see her as a human, in order to properly give and receive feedback and comfort her after the session.

The problem comes from the generalization. I'm a feminist and I assure you I haven't denied anyone their right to clap (except that time during a funeral). Neither have the feminists I know. Can you prove the majority of feminists are so oversensitive? PS: Using tumblr is cheating.
