I've been trying to find a way to fill solid blocks with color using MSpaint, but it's hard because hand-drawn pen lines are always surrounded by grey pixels so the edges of the colored areas get all rough and uneven. Maybe it worked for you because the lines just automatically sharpened when the image size was reduced. Hmm. I'll have to experiment with this later.
