Every "action" (not thought, recognition, idea, framing, etc.) is a vote for the man you want to be. I couldn’t get this idea out of my head yesterday. I found myself repeating it over and over again each time I encountered something unpleasant or uncomfortable. It’s such a simple way of helping figure out what kind of man I want to be - one that doesn’t stuff his face and sabotage his mission the second life goes the least bit off-script. Is the rest of Atomic Habits as useful as this quote/ide…

You phrase your failures as if you're a victim of circumstance. At least take some fucking responsibility for your weakness. You didn't run out of no's. Each time they offered, you took it as permission to give in because their approval is more important than your health and self respect. You’re absolutely right. I’ve slid into framing myself as the victim here rather than taking accountability for my choice. What’s even more disturbing to me is that I didn’t recognize it happening while writing…

I’ve been thinking a lot this week about the direct connection between the physical and mental aspects of lifting. This post did a great job of describing that connection. Just another reason why lifting is the first thing we’re told to do when readying to make a change to our mental models. If your aim was to send a bunch of dudes into the weekend feeling motivated to get after it in the gym and at home, then mission accomplished, man.

When I saw that number on my scale, my brain started it’s mental gymnastics to form a different reality. One where the scale was inaccurate or my water intake at the gym had skewed the numbers. Then I looked up at myself in the mirror and grabbed my stomach in my hands. I don’t know if what I felt this morning was rock bottom, but it sure as fuck didn’t feel good. The connection between my lack of purpose and my physical condition isn’t lost on me either. I need to develop discipline and mindful…

OYS #1 (Week 1) Stats: 38, 6'4", 243.3 lbs, 28.5% body fat, married 11 years, together 13, 2 kids Lifts: DL 285x8, BP 180x8, BOR 155x8, OHP 100x8 Past: I'm a lifetime "nice guy." Happy to let others make decisions for me. Tons of excuses when I failed. Lived life on the path of least resistance. Married my wife when she got pregnant. Too chickenshit to divorce, but too lazy to improve myself. Numbed out with porn, video games, and Taco Bell. Sex dried up two years ago. Got pissed. Found MRP. Thi…

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
