Observed human behaviour being that not everyone is marriage material.and limiting your bodycount could just end up landing you with the wrong partner as observed by the high divorce rates in the 70s and 80s compared to today.

What a shoddy methodology. Making no distinction between virginity before marriage and straight up jumping from 1 to 9+ sexual partners. Previous research (I think it was wolfinger or teachman) showed significant nuances in both the cases.
