A report was filed on me, not by my girlfriend, but someone she knows. The report is now closed. My lawyer has examined my life and the way we handle our relationship such as financials and believes I am in no danger. Right now she has no money even if she wanted to go that route.

It may be unpopular in this sub but I do love my girlfriends son or whatever nomenclature you prefer. The separation will likely be hardest on him. I can honestly say he is closer to me than his mother, and she knows it as well.

The company doesn’t give me access to their corporate lawyers, they pay the bills of lawyers in their respective field as part of my compensation package. When I get a traffic ticket, I get a lawyer who does that work and the company pays them. When I needed someone to review real estate paperwork, they paid a real estate attorney. They cover a lot of services, but not everything obviously. Family law stuff is definitely covered. In total I have probably had them pay ~10-12k in legal fees for va…

Someone else mentioned this. Not a bad idea.

The sad part is that I think the kid won’t be upset in the long run. He is old enough to see some of the frustrations his mom put on me and him as well. He might be upset initially, but I bet he will end up blaming her.

My company provides free or very cheap lawyers to its employees, even for matters like this. I will consult them. Additionally, until this period of her being unemployed, she has made 30-40k more than me annually since we met. She isn’t poor, but loves to spend so doesn’t have much savings. I think child support would be a long shot. He isn’t mine biologically, his bio dad hasn’t seen him in 7 years but still has parental rights. We aren’t married. Plus our income difference when she works. If a…

Thanks for the advice. I am lucky enough to have access to lawyers for free/very cheap through my company. I will get their opinions on this.

I wasn’t even considering this. Very smart idea. Thanks for that.

We do but we don’t fit the requirements for common law. I have always made sure of this.

The vacation has been planned for over a year. It’s around 8k and we still have a lot to pay off it. I planned on increasing my savings and using part for the vacation over the last quarter, but instead have used that money for bills since she is unemployed. So yes, she is still planning on going on vacation.

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
