It does happen to women too, yes. But I barely see any body positivity for men. Also ??? Why would you shame people for what they do with their body. Like it's any of your business.

I've seen a lot of fat men getting ridiculed, but a lot of fat women getting praised... It's a double standard I just cannot stand. Body positivity is FOR BOTH

I agree. A lot of campaigns take it too far. And yes, I doubt a rapist is going to listen to these campaigns 🤷 I think the message serves more as a way to make women feel secure, but it inadvertently causes men to be villanized. It's a difficult situation.

That's a difficult question. I don't know. Sometimes when women do defend men, we're seen as traitors. You're absolutely right that there should be more education instead of saying "NO! YOU CANNOT DO THAT". We need to understand each other, but it's hard to do because we're so different. But at the same time, if we keep fighting, nothings gonna happen. Having the mindset of "you won't listen? I won't listen then." destroys a lot of groups. Sometimes we have to listen, understand and be calm even…

After informing myself in this subreddit, I think I do consider myself egalitarian instead of a feminist. It's sad that feminism has been warped like this, but I guess there's no use using that label if I sound like I only care about my gender.

Never said that I'm "righter". You're ignoring what's really going on. To me, it sounds you're ignoring the fact women do experience these things because "ugh so annoying, we have it bad too you know?" when like... Why can't both things be true? Why are you so bothered by the fact these are things that are happening to us? I never said it to victimize myself or to make you feel bad, because it is happening. I understand a lot of women don't want to hear your side, and I don't agree with that. Th…

The gender pay gap is a very broad subject, so of course it's not exclusively about misogyny, but it does play part in it, which is the problem. It has been proven time and time before that some women found out they were paid less than their male coworkers. Maybe on a broad scale the data also shows that there are women that do less dangerous jobs, that they retire to take care of their kids etc... But on a personal level it has been proven before. What about the things I've said before?

Well Italy has its problems, but I don't want to move. But yes, I'm glad we're on the same page on most things here And yes I do mean treated equally.

"This is an absurd statement. Men also fear walking down dark lanes late at night... " Yeah, my bad, I haven't specified well enough. I just mean outside in the middle of the day though. As for what you said after, yes, you're absolutely correct. Those hardly are men. However technically speaking you cannot deny that their gender tends to be one of a male. And I hate to fucking say this because I don't want to sound accusatory and I hate putting in a group disgusting people with men that really …

If a woman were to say that I think she'd be considered a misandrist by how I see it, yes.

?? How come is it a justification? It's literally the fucking truth. Was I trying to justify anything?? I've been saying men deserve equal rights in certain aspects too. Why does it bother you when I say when things are the way they are? We have to care about both. You're right. It's not right men get killed more often, but please please please tell me last time you've heard about a an incel woman killing a man just because they were born with a dick. Go on. Please answer to my questions "are yo…

While I agree with you there, we have fought for this label. Women in the 20s didn't work their ass off only for feminist to be warped like this. So why can't I use it the way these feminist did? Genuine question, not trying to sound smart.

"Really, ok, so show me ONE thing that feminism has advocated for that benefitted men equally?" We've been fighting against toxic masculinity which does harm men too. We've been challenging harmful stereotypes that harm both genders. We've encouraged men to express themselves emotionally. We've been advocating for shared parenting and work-life balance. We've been supporting male survivors of gender-based violence. No offense but it takes a 3 second Google search to find this stuff, you're just …

I live in Italy actually. Sexual harassment is often seen as not a big deal. Men don't go outside afraid someone will commit a violence against them because they were born as men. Men don't think about spiked drinks when they go to a party. Men aren't afraid of wearing skirts because of some people that take upskirt photos. Men don't bother inspecting public toilets in fear that a hidden camera might spy them while they take a piss. (it has happened and it has been documented). We just want to l…

I agree men do experience these things and they're important to be brought up, especially the suicide rate one. In my opinion though, there's a very important difference: usually these type of crimes against men weren't because they were male. A lot of women do get harassed or even killed because of the fact THEY ARE WOMEN No one is trying to deny men don't have their problems, no one is trying to deny men aren't affected by violence, however I do find myself asking this question: do you go outs…

And I agree that isn't right. I do care if it harassment, and if one of my male friends were to confront me about something like that happening to them, I would comfort them. Men have a hard time opening up, and that's also a thing I'm sad about. Men should be able to express their feelings freely. Even though admittedly I do find myself not agreeing with a lot of things that are being said in this subreddit, I am happy it exists, as it gives men a place to vent.

That's not correct. Feminism was always about equality, if it has been warped into another thing by your own perspective isn't my fault. I'll keep using the term for what it truly stands for. I think I believe in equality of outcome more, which can only be truly achieved when everyone is equal.

Well you're right. I am not a geek. I do consume media, but I guess I never encountered this type of thing before. I don't believe media that features women written by a man is misogynistic unless the women are being sexualized or made attractive just for the sake of creating a very bastardized idea of a woman. That is called objectification and no wonder stuff like this gets called misogynistic.

I wholeheartedly agree, I personally just think labels help find like-minded people. The term feminism has been bastardized, and maybe that's why I feel to double down and use that term, to let people know that "Hey, some things that are being said are horrible. This is not what feminism advocated for, and I want to prove it". It's a shame to women that have fought for feminism back in the 20's only to be grouped with these women that spread harmful and hate-fueled ideas. I understand the fear a…

That's very interesting, thank you so much for bringing this out to me! I'll look more into this. // edit Had a quick read and this is exactly what I think too!! I think I'll start using this term more :)

Well, I do advocate for women's rights but I also want to listen to men too because I am interested learning more and because I believe men have a lot of gender issues that aren't as talked about. I recognize we have our own problems, so I assume men do as well and want to help. Feminism means equality for both genders. Is that really hard to believe? Or do I HAVE to be anti-men to fit your scenario...?

Oh, I didn't know that term. Thank you for telling me :) However feminism also falls into this category, doesn't it? Anyone that claims that feminism is about hating men and demanding everything but gender equality is straight up wrong

If someone says that to you, it is harassment no matter the gender. Women however do tend to have these kind of comments more than men, and subsequently a lot of not consensual sexual advances. Women are obviously more catered to when this happens because we are the main victim of these comments. You may think "Well it happens to men too" and yes, yes it does! It is just as important to talk about these. I believe men that get this type of comments should be supported as much as women are. It is…

"How would we know which woman is which? That's an argument women use, after all, isn't it? [...]" Yeah, that's correct. Generalization helps no one. And you're right that men are being punished because of the act of just some horrible men. It happens to a lot of other groups of people nowadays sadly. It isn't right and it won't ever be right. Women have a right to defend themselves and have the tools avaliable to do so, but some of these take it too far and wrongfully punish men that never did …

Well, I don't necessarily agree with some things you said, but I can't really change the way you see it. Let's just agree to disagree. I just hope everything is okay in your life. "You cannot claim something like that if you're not a man yourself since you aren't the one getting smeared" But I can claim why women could act like that. They're either extremists (I wouldn't even bother arguing with them) or women in distress for personal reasons. I've met a lot of women that are straight up afraid …

No, I'm a girl. I mentioned that because I'm aware this is a mostly men group. Feminism gets villanized a lot especially nowadays, but my belief of feminism is that women should have equal rights to men. This however goes the other way around, and I believe feminists should also work for the injustices men face. We should be working together rather than against each other. I believe women do have it harder especially in third world countries and we can't deny that: it's easy to ignore it, but th…

I think all of what you've said is extremely valid, and I agree these things should be talked about more. It is not sadly as black and white as people seem to make it seem, and in court I do believe women are a lot of the times advantaged. One thing though, sorry if I say something wrong, I just want to say something from my perspective. Many of these campaigns were created from women's exhaustion of being constantly sexualized. I do find campaigns like you mentioned ridiculous, especially becau…

Sorry for the bad formatting, I'm on mobile! "I understand these things still happen, but they're rare." You'd be surprised. I don't want to be like "hurr hurr, I know more than you" but you cannot claim something like that for certain if you're not a woman yourself. it happens to women especially on the internet everyday, it has happened to me countless times even when I was a kid. It's sadly not as rare as you think it is. Trust me, I wish it wasn't the case. "But that's not the case, you have…

Yeah, that's true. It's hard to have a group of people agree on anything, let alone something so divided like gender. I feel in that case the best thing to do is listen to both sides and understand the struggles of both. What I was referring to, were comments that objectified a woman like "Nice ass" which... I'd say most women do agree it's not something okay to say to a woman you don't know. Every situation has its "ifs" and "buts" and trying to accommodate every single situation it's impossibl…

I never said that, sorry if it came across that way. I understand some things that are obvious to me may be misunderstood by others. With misogynistic comments I mean things like "nice ass" "great boobs", which is a problem because it is objectifying a woman. Saying stuff like "Nice dress!" and "You look good today!" are perfectly fine; if a woman has a problem with that, I personally wouldn't jump to conclusions rather ask her why she felt attacked. If it's a reason along the lines of "I don't …

I think the hate goes both ways. You can't really speak on women's perspective if you aren't one, but a lot of my female friends get comments about not being feminine enough or being "a pick me" when they are. It's a sad thing that to both of us. However I did notice that men do shamed for it just as much, if not more. In my opinion, it sucks. Everyone should be able to express their own self without idiots judging them. You'll always be judged, which is sad, but remember that you'll always be y…

Hello, I am a feminist, I enjoy following this sub to hear from both sides. I've never heard of this argument before, may you give me more examples? However no, being attracted to women isn't mysogyny... That's literally how we are, it's in our DNA to need a partner, be it a friend or a soulmate 🤷 If Im understanding correctly, you're confused on the usage of the word misogyny. The word misogyny is used nowadays to describe everything that hurts women, therefore creepy comments might not mean th…
