Welcome! My ex wife left me to pursue a lesbian relationship. She was getting the “atta girl” from women and the LGBT community. I wonder if it is harder to question leaving when you have so much support. Like there is a fear that if you have doubts those people will stop supporting you. Idk just random thoughts I’ve had on this journey. I by no means think she is a bad person for being a lesbian. I just wish she figured it out sooner. 10 year marriage and 2 kids later is not the ideal timeline …

According to my ex-wife, she left me because I’m a narcissist. Never mind the fact that she is actually a lesbian and wants to date women now. Same girl, same

This is what I learned too. That some people are your people until they’re not. And trying to stop it is like trying to hold sand in an open hand, no matter how hard you try, it’s gone.

I’m about 6 months post divorce (15 months separated). The biggest win for me has been freedom. I get to choose how to be a parent, what to do with my free time, and how I show up in the world. There is peace in knowing I’m in control of my own life. I wouldn’t say that I’m all the way there yet. But the thing that has helped me the most is having a goal. I’ve always been very “fix it” focused so deciding what needs to be “fixed” and putting a plan in place has helped keep me focused. I’m in the…

My ex and I went to therapy so she could check a box. She was already leaving and told the therapist that I was the problem. The first time the therapist tried to push back was led to the next session where she formally said she wanted a divorce. It was all a tactic to get me off balance and try to work on myself so she could use it against me in the divorce “you apologized for xyz in therapy. That is the real reason I’m leaving.” All bullshit

I would like to say how awesome it is that all of the dads are saying that not seeing the kids is at the top of the list. My ex is a lesbian and has started teaching our girls that dads and men in general suck. This is despite splitting custody 50/50 and equally sharing bedtimes/dinners/etc during our 10 year marriage. Dads are amazing and help raise well rounded humans. Keep up the good work and it’ll pay off!

I 100% agree with this. Take the approach that you are teaching your kids how to care about people they care about. Think like this “in our (dad’s) house, we call people and wish happy birthday.” That way your coparent doesn’t control your home and the lessons you’re teaching your kids. Your kids see and remember these things. Don’t let your coparent drag you in the mud on this marathon.

I can’t wait until my kids are old enough to have their own phones. I can’t risk accusations of “estrangement” now but there are some great ideas in here

I feel this so much. My girls and STBXW was my family and now I can’t be with my girls. I did go stay with a friend and his family that are like family but it is no way the same. I’m trying to decide between pretending like it’s a normal day and finding a bar somewhere.

I think the fact that she is gay closed this door for me. Like if it was anything else, I would want to stay and fight for us. Can’t really fight nature though. If she went back in the closet at this point, I don’t see how I could believe it.

Did y’all try therapy during any of this? Nobody wants to feel invalidated. I also get the impulse to ignore potentially life altering changes. Kind of like having high blood pressure. People ignore it all of the time despite the fact that it’s causing long term issues.

I’m still working through it. She has changed so much since she started “unmasking.” I feel like I don’t know the woman I married at all. So that helps distance some too. I would not say that I’m happy or expect to be anytime soon. She broke my heart and my family. It hurts a lot. It was really infuriating though when she would say things like she is doing this for me or the kids. In reality it is for her. I don’t think it makes her a bad person or anything, but pretending that this is for me or…

Honestly a fucking lot. I don’t have to pay alimony or anything but my life has changed. I’ve lost half of my kid’s time in childhood and half of our household income (we both work). It sucks. But I’d rather not spend the rest of my life with somebody who doesn’t want to be with me. I’m worth more than that. I deserve to be a whole person too and that includes not being married to somebody who I can’t live a full life with. Maybe I’ll find somebody else and maybe I won’t, but I refuse to be marr…

My wife recently came out as gay and we are getting divorced. She had been out as bi since the beginning so I feel like I (probably we) missed a lot of flags. Honestly the version of her that has existed for the past 12 years is disappearing and becoming someone else that I don’t know. Like she hid this from herself (and me by extension) for so long. What else was I missing the whole time? So no, I don’t think I would stay married to her even if she wanted to stay together. As an aside, I don’t …
