The law should care. It’s a crime to cut parts off girls.

You don't care about consent and forcing unnecessary surgery on children for no reason? Not your body, not your choice.

It was 49% nationwide, across all regions, in 2022.

That may have happened 30 years ago, but that's definitely not standard practice in 2025. Tons of hospitals no longer even do circumcisions, since Covid. And tons of insurance companies have stopped paying for it. If you look at the regional data, only 19% of boys in 2022 were cut on the west coast.

it does seem like the procedure is considered the norm unless the parent opts out No, parents are always asked and need to sign a consent form. Any surgery without a signed consent form is illegal, and would be an easy lawsuit to win against the hospital. Especially since Covid, many hospitals in the US no longer even offer circumcisions. If you really want one, you have to get it done at a private clinic weeks after birth, and usually pay hundreds out of pocket, since increasingly it's not bein…

How did you avoid the snip? Also feel free to send me a chat if that’s easier.

Agreed, I have one myself haha

The doctor would have to tell them it's not medically recommended. It seems like right now most are just neutral, and don't express any opinion and just do whatever the parents want.

You'd have to contact the head and JHM and ask if that's their official position on the topic. It's posted as a press release, and seems to be just promoting the results of his study. Either way I agree the press release should've been written neutrally and not coming off like they're endorsing his opinions.

This isn't even the opinion of JHM, they're just quoting the findings of a single doctor (Aaron Tobian) who did this study and published the paper. That doctor has a history of publishing tons of pro-circumcision papers, it's pretty much the only thing he talks about: https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/?term=Tobian+AA&cauthor_id=24590141

Funny, because if you ask gay men (even in the US) what they prefer, you overwhelmingly get the opposite opinion lol Sure, there are some who prefer cut, but in my experience the majority prefer uncut. Plus, gay men are more informed about dicks in general than women are haha

parent opinions need to be respected Here's what the Canadian Pediatric Society says about that: Neonatal circumcision is a contentious issue in Canada. The procedure often raises ethical and legal considerations, in part because it has lifelong consequences and is performed on a child who cannot give consent. Infants need a substitute decision maker – usually their parents – to act in their best interests. Yet the authority of substitute decision makers is not absolute. In most jurisdictions, a…

A lot of doctors seem to be Jewish. Way more than the 2% they make up of the overall US population it seems.

Yeah, the same reason that most American cut dads also cut their sons. Though more and more dads are breaking that cycle.

I don't think that's the reason why it became popular in the US, but it does seem since the internet and parents doing their own research, the rate has been steadily dropping.

Can’t even go to a PCP without it being offered and stupid new mothers rushing in with newborns to get this done. I think it's very regional. I've heard from a lot of parents in west coast cities like Seattle, Portland, and San Francisco who say their doctor didn't even offer, and were happy they didn't cut their kid.

I sent him an email, but I'm guessing he's used to the hate mail at this point and probably has a filter on his email or something and doesn't even read it lol

The rates shot up after the 2012 statement, by a lot. Not really, no. His own study found that it dropped since 2012. It was 55% and now it's 49%. The peak was around 1984 when it was like 85%.

Jews made the choice to do this shit Unfortunately not, it gets forced on them as a baby whether they want it or not.

Even their 2012 statement said: "Health benefits are not great enough to recommend routine circumcision for all male newborns." I doubt that they'd come to a different conclusion than the rest of the world, that would only further hurt their credibility. the rates shot up Did they? Rates have been declining pretty steadily since the 1980s.

Apparently the majority don't support it, since this study found that the circumcision rate as of 2022 has fallen below 50%. Do a survey of Millennials and Gen Z in the US and I bet a lot less than 50% support it. It's mostly Gen X and older that seem to support it.

This topic is pretty much the only thing this guy publishes papers on. and he's a known friend and co-author of Brian Morris, another pro-circumcision nut job. I have no idea why Johns Hopkins even employs him. Seems the only thing he cares about is circumcision lol

It's usually just uninformed parents, or the dad wanting the son to match him.

The author of this article (Aaron Tobian) is extremely pro-circumcision, it's almost all he publishes papers on. The guy is obsessed lol
