Divorce started in 2018 and finalized in 2020 (3 years). She sued me the first time in 2022 and then in 2024. We've settled in 2025... It took about 7-8 years to feel better, but not the same as I was prior to the divorce. My way of thinking about life, kids, relationships, marriages and finances changed. I'm no longer as open and willing and this is irreversible. Yes, I will never feel the same as my prior self.

I had very similar situation with my divorce and thoughts. I dealt with it by doing the following, physical exhaustion (exercise), pray, draw wisdom from people that have been through similar situation and other sources. I was also taking valerian root, few drops every day for a year or so, to deal with the thoughts.

Unwanted divorce is similar to a death of some one close and you need to grieve and heal before you can start a new life…

See if you can workout to have them during their fall or spring break for a full week and another week during a summer. Plan some fun stuff (beach, trips, bike rides, parks, restaurants, barbecues etc.) during their stay. Hopefully they will like the activities and will want to come over more often.

Thanks. My divorce agreement says emancipation age is 21, according to NYC laws. The agreement was moved to NJ in its entirety. I was just wondering when I should start the process of reducing the child support, since my oldest turns 20 soon and i know courts work slow. I thought maybe someone went through the change and would have the timeline.

yes I’m aware of that. I pay 2400 for three. CS should drop significantly from 3 to 2 but not so much from 2 to 1.

i was and am in similar situation. My ex left me for her “ex” boyfriend from when she was young. She was bringing him to my kids graduations while we were in process of the divorce. It was very raw for me at the time and I didn’t show up for important events of my kids. Now I do come for graduations, but not for birthdays where I have to be on their territory. If you feel you can’t control yourself then stay away until it doesn’t hurt as much.

Be a man and demand respect. But she already committed infidelity - leave, be a man!

go to pharmacy get valerian root. Put about 5-10 drops in your coffee or tea. It will help with the thoughts and give you some calm in your mind. Every morning take few drops until you feel better.

just to add to the above, change passwords to all your personal accounts. Be ready that she will charge credit cards that’s on your name, so shut those down. Open your own account and route your income checks there. Be polite to her at all times, assume you’re being recorded. Don’t take any loans and don’t move anywhere, because properties will get divided. If you have savings account, take half. She will bark and throw tantrums, but ignore those. Communicate with her through your lawyer. Be fir…

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
