Sexual relationships are relationships.

I didn't used to like hearing it either, but knowing what I know now, I understand its necessity. Sex isn't just sex. Relationships aren't just relationships. Understanding why a potential partner made the decisions they did and questioning their intentions with you while knowing said history just hashes out a lot of shit. You can say "Why did you do this bad thing to person y? Is this something that we will have to address" or "It's great to see how you handled that situation with person b, it'…

I mean, if communication is that hard for you and this makes it less uncomfortable for you, go right ahead.

My point stands regardless.

I, personally, didn't like to discuss it when I was younger either. But how would you know you're dating someone who's a serial dater, lacks accountability by blaming everything on their exes, or dissociates sex due to mainly only having casual relationships? Speaking about relationship and sexual history nips many potential red flags in the bud. Just go to r/relationships and see how many posts are "I just found out my SO...". If you're open with your partner and they're open with you, there wo…

Yeah, because lying by omission to your partner about things they may see as potential red flags is being connected to reality.

How one handled previous relationships are definitely a part of your character. One's past isn't simply washed away when they meet someone new. And I don't think it matters whether people like to hear it or not, it's one of those things that should be put on the table up front so that they can decide whether or not it's something they'd like to move forward with or, at the minimum, bring it up conversation to see whether or it's something they'd like to talk about. At the end of the day, discuss…

Gotta disagree. My gf and I are in a healthy relationship and discussed sexual partners, along with how one views sex, relationships, and current/past toxic traits. It's childish to assume people shouldn't know your sexual history and how it is a part of your character.

Lol nah, I'm just not young and naive anymore.

What if the sex they were having was actually hypersexuality due to a larger issue? Or if they're a serial dater? Nuance is all I'm asking for. Sex isn't always simply sex. A good example of this is my relationship now. My gf and I both have an interesting dating/sexual past and we've both agreed that we wouldn't date our previous selves. Not due to the sex or dating, but because of the mind states we were in while having sex and dating. Sexual and dating behaviors often have direct links to pre…

...do you understand what I'm saying or just replying? Are you denying that checking sexual/dating history can reveal red flags? I'm happy for your relationship, but confused on your stance, honestly.

And not checking for red flags before going into a moving further with someone seems naive to me. Dating/sexual history can be major indicators.

It's a little of both. Many women were restricted from services unless they were listed as a single parent home.

As a guy who has quite a history himself, I'm guessing it's because of the decision making and mental health involved when it comes to someone being promiscuous. And I also think people have every right to question it. I can, honestly, say I wasn't always in the greatest mind space or made the best decisions and, while it has made for great stories, it also kept me in a cycle of attempting to use casual sex to escape my feelings. That's the mindset of someone who would most likely be very toxic …

We kinda do this naturally though. I was single for a decade and have no kids. Women assumed I was gay, abusive, poor, and a multitude of other things. And for good reason because being single that long while not being unattractive can be a major red flag. Can we please stop acting like our personal decisions and history shouldn't be scrutinized by potential lovers?

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
