I don't think it's a common occurence for a woman to be berated for feeling vulnerable. If anything, women's vulnerability has always been a central theme in people's lives, seeing it pop up everywhere even in ancient times. I think it might be somewhat more common on the internet when this issue is raised, because it's the place where people will share their opinion, and some opinions will inevitably be wrong.

In lots of cultures, women were depended upon to handle the brainier aspects of the household, like economics. So I would have to modify what you propose, by switching smarter to more skilled.
