It can. I have personal experience with this. I had to learn to find joy in the small wins. That and see my failures as opportunities to learn and improve. It sucks that most people have to learn through mistakes, which can sometimes be disappointing and painful but that's life, i guess.

I met this girl online when I was 15. Texted a whole lot during the holidays since we both went to boarding schools that didn't allow students to carry cellphones(which is the norm where I'm from). On the last Saturday before school started I texted her to apologize for not asking her out as if I owed it to her. Got ghosted shortly after.
