Also seems especially egregious considering ALL of my abusers as a child were adult women (one of which took a sadistic sort of pleasure to torturing me, an autistic child having an anxiety attack). Like I wish people would stop pretending that female teachers can't harm children when I've experienced that harm personally.

By far the most comprehensive and compelling video I've seen on the subject so far, and an excellent explanation of the systemic issues at play.

The irony that these people don't actually care about women's sports, too
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates15/04/25 03:46 PM

My thoughts exactly. There were actually calls to desegregate sports by sex entirely, until people started making a fuss about trans people being allowed to play. Equal rights for all genders except transgenders I guess!

What I'm seeing here is a strong theme of classism as well, that all working-class men were smeared as dirty and drunken wife-beating boors, compared to the clean upper-class men, as if they didn't have a seedy underbelly of domestic abuse and vice as well. The easiest way to eradicate sympathy for the working class is to assassinate their character, after all.

I guess teach men that being gay isn't a bad thing? Like obviously you can't just snap your fingers and change things, but destigmatizing homosexuality and disassociating it with physical affection isn't an impossible goal. If anything, homosexuality should be normalized as a healthy aspect of human behaviour, even if a person isn't exclusively gay.

I would say it's lost its original meaning now, being used to denigrate socially awkward young men and demonize healthy male sexuality by likening them to misogynist extremists. Most men probably aren't going to go out of their way to rape or kill women, and referring to them by a term used specifically to describe rapists and murderers will only drive them further into isolation.

It would be like showing 13 Reasons Why in schools to raise awareness of mental illness and suicide; short-sighted, sensationalist and utterly ineffective. We need to lift boys up and teach them what they can do to be good men, not tell them that they're all potential criminals who have to accept feminism or else.

I remember hearing "raise feminist sons" 10 years ago; it's funny, really, just how hard they failed at that lol.

Another flaw I've noticed with "men can just not rape people" is that often, many men literally do not realize what they're doing is rape or sexual assault (depending on the legal definitions). Like to them, it's normal and harmless sexual behaviour, because nobody ever told them that what they were doing was harmful and traumatic to their victim and potentially illegal. Even just a cursory look through some threads about traumatic sexual experiences on Reddit will show that many sexual offences…

I've heard of this before, that sex-segregated schools improve the academic performance of both boys AND girls; after all, my mother and aunt went to an all-girls Catholic school and turned out very smart and successful. I'm all for it!

I feel like this phenomena can at least partially be attributed to the exceedingly casual homophobia of the 80s and 2000s; guys are afraid to show affection towards one another out of fear of seeming "gay", and so constantly hold each other at arm's length and draw rigid boundaries for acceptable and unacceptable behaviour within male friendships. It's sad, really, that so many men are so lethally allergic to affection because an entire generation has been taught that appearing gay is the worst …

As I've said before, there's inherently nothing wrong with being a masculine man, so long as you don't use it as an excuse for bad behaviour or belittling people who don't fit your standards.
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates22/03/25 07:20 PM

Definitely. And maybe take the pressure off of young men to get laid, because sometimes you need to focus on your own mental health instead of obsessing over whether or not women will find you attractive. Being a male virgin isn't a sin, and even if you want to eventually have sex, it doesn't have to happen tomorrow.

My main takeaway from this is that it's about how parents are becoming negligent milquetoasts who are fine with letting their kids get raised by social media, and then acting shocked when social teaches them that antisocial behaviour is acceptable and justified. There's a reason why the term "fatherless behaviour" exists to describe what we now know as incel culture. And it doesn't really do a very good job at delivering this message, if I'm honest. It relies too much on the shock value of a lit…

Possibly, but either way, the Democratic Party is a lost cause whether they change their tone on men or not. It's not just that they've fallen headlong into identity politics and misandry; they've tarnished the left's reputation as a whole by painting it over with their milquetoast neoliberalism, and even as their voter base becomes increasingly progressive and closer to the economic left, they continue to prop up an increasingly grim status quo and are quick to undermine any party members who d…

The dating scene has been abysmal since the dawn of dating apps anyhow. Nobody knows how to actually interact with a prospective partner or treat them with any common decency, because the algorithms create a very superficial and hyper-competitive environment, where good looks and impressive profiles win, average people lose, and rude or predatory behaviour goes unpunished, It's all about showing off to impress matches and beating back the competition by feeding the algorithm what it's looking fo…

Oh, absolutely. There were many different factions of feminism that courted many different political spheres, and ultimately now that many of the goals of gender equality have been won, it's only natural to begin seeing more outspoken feminists in far-right spaces.

This. As I once heard in an article; "Boys are suffering, and the Manosphere tells them they're worth something. That's attractive." We shouldn't be nicer to boys for the purpose of protecting women and girls, we should be nicer to boys because the world isn't.

Well, I'm a transsexual man and Andrea Dworkin is vocally anti-trans, so that certainly doesn't endear me to her, to put it very lightly. And in all honesty, her opinions are such shite that not even other feminists (especially sex-positive feminists) want to touch. She's a disgraceful and spiteful TERF through and through

Heh, glad I wasn't rambling. On a side note, Lightoller's memoir is an excellent read, and he had a very colourful life, both before and after his brief stint with the Titanic

As for your main point, I do agree that the animosity towards men feels overblown at times, like they assume men being kind or heroic always carries an ulterior motive. It feels like a Catch-22, that you're either a bad guy for being a violent sexual predator or a bad guy for being too nice and caring. I envy that aspect of traditional gender roles, where men were expected to treat women with kindness and dignity, and women didn't assume nefarious intent by default because of some men who never …

Also, waiting until this person learns that: 1) "Women and children first" was never an official maritime policy, it was just considered the chivalrous thing for a man to do in an emergency, to ensure the most vulnerable were protected, even if it cost him his own life 2) while Captain Smith did give the recommendation to evacuate women and children first, it was Second Officer Lightoller who enforced "women and children ONLY"; First Officer Murdoch allowed some men to board if there was room le…

I can agree with most of this, but the whole anti-porn moral panic drives me mad. Like, porn is nothing new, teen sexual curiosity is nothing new, and it certainly isn't teaching boys to be misogynists. In fact, this article brings up plenty of other reasons why young men and boys are unhappy and resentful, all with much more substantial scientific backing. Not a single mainstream psychological organization on earth agrees with the notion that porn or masturbation is addictive and leads to bad b…

I mean, it IS good that young people are learning about consent, but the way that they learn it could be much better. For one, lessons on consent need to begin young, be simple to understand and be taught without shame or gendered associations. Drilling adult men on sexual harassment isn't going anywhere, and it certainly isn't helping the root problem; that kids, regard of gender, are conditioned to accept authority as a prerequisite for consent. For example, a boy is scolded for hugging a girl…

Encouraging men to bond with each other (as opposed to looking for a girlfriend) is a good start. There are less opportunities for young men to hang out in person than there were 10 years ago, as social media has become ubiquitous and work hours have squeezed people into uncompromising schedules, and the stigma against physical contact and emotional engagement causes platonic male relationships to feel sullen and bland. In cultures that normalize physical and emotional affection between men and …

What I meant was that a lot of non-binary people AFAB will go to great lengths to present as feminine and youthful as possible, because they hate men and don't want to be perceived as male. Ironically, some of them take T, while others view it as icky man juice that will make you hairy and smelly and [shudders] horny. And then, when people inevitably misgender them as women upon first impression, they get all huffy and go off about how expression ≠ gender identity, as if that's going to magicall…

That is true, though I mentioned tucutes specifically because much of this narrative is indeed perpetuated by other trans people, usually nonbinary people AFAB rather than queer cisgender women. Instead of viewing transition as a lifesaving medical intervention, they seem to view surgery and HRT as cosmetic procedures, and that gender is a state of mind rather than an immutable characteristic of your person (which is ironic, considering how they agree that access to legal transition resources sa…

Hope your bro knows that he's not alone about that, that many of his trans brothers feel abandoned and hated by feminists and the LGBT community alike; however, I'm glad we can find companionship and solidarity with male comrades from all walks of life, and learn from them that being a man does not mean being a villain.

One of the many reasons I, as a trans male, no longer consider myself a feminist. I'm proud a being a straight man because being a straight man is who I authentically and immutably am, and if that makes me a Gender Traitor to women or the LGBT community, I don't care; you can't force me to live in shame and denial just because you think manhood is unclean and evil. Tbf though, a lot of this isn't coming from feminist women, but from tucutes who are scared of masculinity.

For one, we need to make it loud and clear that we are NOT anti-woman or part of the alt-right, simply trying to improve the lives and livelihoods of men for the purpose of furthering gender equality; our image has been tarnished and perverted by right-wing extremists and vocal misogynists, and openly disavowing any affiliation with that lot will hopefully give us more credibility. Speaking about it from a human rights and far-left angle would certainly help, because men are human beings, and ca…

To be honest, women losing their rights under this next presidency is just the tip of the iceberg; the damage that will be done to the government and public infrastructure as a whole will be utterly irreparable for generations.

So essentially, aside from women being unable to rape men, lesbians can't commit rape against other women and adult women can't commit rape against children. Fuckin' brilliant… Wonder when they're going to decide that men can't be raped by other men because that's "criminalizing gay sex" (somehow).

I think his idea of disability being "feminizing" comes from the fact that disability can make people weak, and therefore "unmasculine". Which makes absolutely no sense to me, because this is literally the first time I've ever heard disability equated with gender. Their entire argument essentially boils down to "strength manly, weakness feminine". All I do know is that (cisgender) women are more likely to have autoimmune diseases and allergies because they have a more robust immune system, which…

I appreciate your optimism, but I will unfortunately say that, looking outwards from a trans perspective, the societal attitudes towards of transsexuals is becoming closer to how it was in 1940s Germany than anything else (at least in the US/UK, and some European countries like Hungary, Slovakia and Russia are that bad already). Repealing trans rights and using transsexuals as scapegoats for social problems seems to be in fashion among the far-right, and instead of defending us, feminists have e…

I mean, as a transsexual man who's been on both sides of the coin, I would agree that femininity is as enforced as masculinity, just in different ways. Tomboys are only tolerated because they're expected to grow out of it and become more feminine with age, and I spent a good chunk of my teen years feeling like I was "failing" at womanhood because I didn't like being feminine and was never any good when I tried. Coming out and transitioning to male is seen as traitorous towards women and the effo…

That is true, and many transsexuals opt to have their reproductive organs altered to better match their neurological sex or removed altogether, as many of us find the processes of reproduction (and the related bodily functions like periods or erections) deeply distressing and dysphoria-inducing. This isn't a case for everyone, of course, but I do feel like being sterilized via getting my female internal organs removed would make me infinitely happier and more in line with myself. And ultimately,…

I feel like people of all genders get a better reaction when you say their opinions or behaviour is "sexist" rather than "misandristic". Like obviously I'm not denying hatred of men exists, but most people take "misandry" or "not all men" to imply that I'm downplaying/defending misogyny, that I'm one of "those guys". But sexism applies to everyone, and I definitely call it out whenever I encounter it. Stuff like "men only ever think about sex" or "men are naturally better/worse at [X subjects]".…

Sex is immutable and innate, but it isn't necessarily rooted in chromosomes or genitalia. There's also neurological sex, as there are key differences between areas of the male and female brain; when these areas were observed in a transsexual woman, they were identical to a cisgender woman's. Similarly, you can't force a cisgender person to be the opposite sex, no matter how they're raised, because of neurological sex being innate. The change in gender expression and seeking out medical intervent…

Honestly, the TERF side of the coin is mostly a problem in the UK, but it's becoming more pervasive in all feminist circles as of late, partly thanks to the influence of vocal radfems willing to cozy up with far-right politicians. As for myself, I'm a transmedicalist; I believe that gender dysphoria is paramount to the condition, and it can only be cured through medical intervention and social transition. Unfortunately, the greater LGBTQ movement has been aiming too high and coming on too heavy,…

That is true, sorry for lack of clarity. But in spite of that, I still see many neoliberal feminist circles celebrating her for "breaking the Glass Ceiling" or whatever. I suppose one can also argue that it's because of Thatcher that feminism as a whole began embracing the political right, as did many previously progressive circles during that era; social media may have been a big driver of identity politics and historical revisionism, but it's nothing new, in terms of making conservative politi…

They do not think it's terrible that most members of parliament, judges, ministers and legal owners of large currencies and large means of production are men, but they do not think it would be worse if it were not so. Hit the nail on the head with that one! Because as we can clearly see with right-wing female politicians (Alice Wiedel, Kemi Badenoch, Georgia Meloni, Ana Brnabić, etc.), having a woman (even a woman with minority status) in a position of power does NOT guarantee better rights for …

I try to avoid the term "MRA" specifically, as it tends to carry unfortunate associations for understandable reasons; instead, I simply say that I believe in gender equality, NOT feminism, and elaborate accordingly. To elaborate here: my motivations lie primarily with being a straight transsexual man, and therefore feeling abandoned, betrayed and deceived by feminism. I don't want to get revenge on women or assert my dominance over them, I simply believe that not enough progress has been made to…
