That said, this particular training is to learn to use your empty rifle as a weapon, not how to power slam the enemy. It's essentially bayonet training, for when you run out of ammo and all you can do is stab and hit with the ends of your rifle. That's why there's big wads of padding on either end. You're not supposed to start 20 feet apart, either.
