First consultation with a divorce attorney is often free.

Keep looking until you find someone you feel more comfortable with. Don't base your decision solely on price. The situation sucks, but you should have competent legal help to get through it as unscathed as possible. Good luck.

Protection order is fairly easy to obtain.

I told my ex I would be initiating, and she ran to a lawyer to initiate first. My life is infinitely, indescribably better now. Zero regrets.

Maybe worth it if you want to convince yourself and your spouse that you tried everything. But otherwise worthless in my experience as well.

Just love your life and wait for better days. They are coming.

Don’t know about Oregon law, but the deal is usually 50-50 splitting of all assets and debts acquired during the marriage. It sounds like you’re seeking something different, so you might both need to consult attorneys.

In retrospect, absolutely.

This sounds good. But my attorney initially promised a lot of things that didn’t turn out so well. Keep us posted. Good luck!

Yes. I instantly became much happier the day I left and we separated. There was much stress getting to the divorce, of course. But I am happy again for the first time in many years.

Work out a settlement agreement on your own. If you end up fighting about it in court, it’s going to get very, VERY expensive for both of you. The only winners in court are the attorneys.

Personally I will never marry again. There’s absolutely no benefit for the man. Fool me once...

Please don’t wait. You deserve to be happy, and you are solely responsible for your happiness. I wasted 25+ years being miserable with a woman. It’s tough, but you need to communicate the truth with her. Work out an agreement to minimize legal expenses. And enjoy your new happier life.

Could turn out to advantageous. Or not matter at all. Or be detrimental. It’s the legal profession, an expensive crap shoot for us, a profitable business venture for them. Good luck.

After 26 years of narcissistic abuse, I am now free and happy again. I am doing things I’ve always wanted to do, living life instead of dreading waking to another day.

If she won’t agree to less, you can fight. But it will likely be expensive and there are no guarantees. Talk to an attorney.

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
