His ex (the boy's mother) did not have custody. James Boulware's mother had custody of his son. In otherwords, James Bouleware was fighting with his own mother for custody of his child. That figure doesn't take into account that children spend far more time with a mother than with a father,especially when they are quite young and most vulnerable. If you take ugly_duck's statistic that 54%of perpetrators are women (by sheer number), then consider children spend at least five or six amount of time with mother than their father during the first year of life, then mothers are far less abusive than fathers.

If a person doesn't want to be a parent, then that's something that should be discussed when the couple is dating. A person who doesn't want to be a parent shouldn't be marrying a person who does want to be a parent.
