The problem is that you're mislabeling disagreement as discourse. It's easy to see conflicting perspectives and arguments as an attack on your opinions and your personal perspective. You are likely seeing these disagreements cause you a fair bit of downvotes, and may see that as an attempt to "shut down" your argument. That, however, is not the case.
