7	1st Date Tips You can fight it and be the principled dude that doesn't pick up the tab. But it's tacky, IMHO. It's one thing if you meet a girl in a bar—I don't start buying drinks for that girl. She hasn't done anything to earn them. On the other hand, if a girl agrees to let me take her out, I think you look like a game-playing robot if you refuse to pay.
