I agree that binary statistics are not the right method to deal with the "how do we solve this?" questions (just look at the gender wage gap issue for an example of this), but I think it's a good first step to the "do we need to solve this?" question. 43% is pretty significant, I think OP didn't clarify due to the fact that it's generally perceived as much lower or zero. Thanks for taking the gender out of this. I'm amused how much of a jump she went through to go from an imperative statement to mansplaining, however they defined it. I'm not really seeing where anyone is getting patronized (or so much as explaining anything really). That's a very good case. I never said that it hasn't happened multiple times, I'm saying there may (I'm on mobile) be similar cases that happened after this precedent was set where paternal liability was waived. I'm glad you sent me that particular case, regardless of how much it happens in comparison to not imposing liability, it's too much. And the fact that cases like these are being cited in others is a little disturbing, but not surprising.

So.. I'm not quite understanding the connection between this and your upper level reply. Unless you believe abortion to be unethical, and given that you've already said you believe men can opt out, why would either party have risk of raising the child? The woman can choose a method of birth control respective to the stage the fetus (zygote?) is at and the man can opt out from raising it if the woman chooses to bring it to term.

I was in agreement until the rape scenario being 100% legal. See, that last part I really don't get. I'd like to see an argument where the "keep it in your pants" argument is countered with a female analog. Both because I'm curious and for a reasonable explanation of what someone would say to that, I don't debate much (though I'd like to, this sub can be a little echo-chamber-y), so I'd like a differing opinion.

This is very well said. I'm inclined to agree with you, but why isn't it fair? If a believers' beliefs are just a subset of who they are, why do their beliefs mean we need to be against the believer? (Assuming that the believer in this case is just some individual in a movement) I'm also confused about what you're meaning "good beliefs" and "bad beliefs" as. Are they things that we agree with being "good", or things that we may not necessarily agree with being good, but are justifiable/not logic…

I see what you're saying! I was drawing a distinction between being against the set of beliefs and against the idea of the group or movement itself (or for that matter, a group being against another group). To say you're advocating for men's rights wouldn't necessarily mean you're against feminism, even though it may reflect many people's beliefs in that group.

I understand your thinking on this, but I don't think this makes the argument weak. How I interpreted this was: He believes that it isn't (shouldn't be?) the governments job to do this, regardless of whether it currently does or does not.
