They will always take why they think the child would need from the other party no matter whether it makes sense from a fairness standpoint. Say you end up with a 50/50 custody and the mother only makes 20k per year and you make 100k per year. They will make you pay child support so that the child will have everything needed for the 50% of the time they are with the mother, regardless of the fact that you are already paying for your own 50%.
