Idk I would say it does the opposite of messing with their lives. You lay the foundation right away by saying you are not looking for anything serious and that makes the inevitable break up a billion times easier for them than the "slow fade away". Finishing is actually easier. Make an excuse/activity to leave together. Depending on the girl, invite her back for movie, get high, more drinks, show her your artwork, food (works a lot), anything besides hey let's go and fuck.
