Very late reply here, but I live in Norway and that's what I spent on electricity the last 6 months. It's a new place, so it's incredibly well insulated.

Norway made it into a law that rape centers had to accept male victims as well in 2012. While that wasn't opening a center specifically for males, it did mean that for all practical purposes, we suddenly had a lot of rape centers for males as well.

From Norway. I've heard about the Pledge of Allegiance, I just thought it was something done on special occasions; maybe in class on the 4th of July, perhaps by the jury at trials (seems logical to me you'd swear loyalty to your country and it's justice process). Edit: Oh, and as to why, I'm not sure. I just feel it's, well "indoctrinating" is a too strong word for it, but my English skills fail me here. I just found myself suddenly realizing where the strong US patriotism partly stems from.

Replying to a comment and keeping it relevant to what it was about is not co-opting, you're making an idiot argument.

I just didn't disagree with the co-opting argument all that much. What I did argue for initially was just some understanding, and then it spiraled from there into where he showed that he was really a social justice warrior that couldn't even allow discussion on male circumcision in a thread that was about a course on masculinity. In other words, he attempted to co-opt the discussion into FGM, but it wasn't alright the other way around.

I just want to mention that shit does not fly in mensrights, at least not when I browsed it up until ~6 months ago (GG took my attention, but I'm still concerned about certain subjects such as child custody, sentencing differences between genders and false rape claims). I like how you think being called a scientologist is worse than being called an ass ;-) Also I said that because they're fairly known for being adamantly against drugs for mental illness (or conditions, if you like). I see that's not your issue now, though. I'll check the link a bit later, but isn't your reaction to the word "illness" a bit pedantic? I agree completely that we should keep terminologies in check and calling alcoholism an illness for instance, I'm against. I'm fine calling both a …

Norway introduced laws in 2011 that gave men equal access to crisis centers. There was a lot of whining and opposition to it, but fortunately it passed through. Main argument? It would leave less money for women shelters. I saw a comment that was pretty awesome: "If women would stop hitting men, they would get 100% of the funding."

Oh uh by "options" I mean options to.... uhm, when I had to describe you, wait. That is, I meant possibilities. Of course that doesn't mean you can't choose to be what gender you wish to be, of course you can! It was just.. uh. Fuck, I'm going to jail, aren't I?

That sounds like a way larger intrusion than the "snipping off the tip just a bit" South Park made it out to be. I know I know, getting my sources from South Park; I wasn't about to make a paper on this before anyone says something. My point about that is South Park makes an influence on peoples opinions and that makes South Park a confirmation bias to people in favor of circumcision, whereas someone would be more likely to check it out from a different perspective before that.

I agree and I don't see the reason why it has to be done as a baby. It's not like he needs his dick to "look nice" at that age anyway, unless you're a pervert. I went and found this color coded world map showing circumscision rates, as I wasn't quite sure how usual it was. his penis was accidentally destroyed during a botched circumcision Emphasis mine, I just noticed the choice of word instead of damaged/ruined or similar. From their standard, If it's still visible, the sub supports it - even if it's downvoted. This is in stark contrast to our standard that nothing relevant should be deleted, the voting system is there for a reason. I'd like to add that a heavily downvoted comment is valuable in that it shows others what's accepted behavior. In the same way cultures exist and change in the real world: in a country, on the job, among your friends - it's the feedback you get on acceptable and non-acceptable behavior…

Oh hey, someone from stormfront? (Doesn't matter anyway, but you're coming off pretty defensive) I don't think you're too strong on philosophy yourself, I never claimed anything about being correct or not, only the certainty of being correct.

Huh, that's quite fascinating. Too bad I didn't delve enough into psychology so I perhaps could better understand what that means. My guess would be that they're absolutely convinced they're right, so a challenge doesn't mean anything. I'd also assume that banning people would go against a core belief about themselves as being stronger than other people, so banning someone that just posted a dissenting opinion would show a sign of weakness.

Oh indeed, piranhas are quite fascinating and heavily misunderstood like the great white shark. I had to rely on the myth/prejudice for my joke to work, though <:) I encourage everyone to have a look at a few documentaries about piranhas. One of them showed me they usually attack in the wild only if you disturb locations where eggs have been laid, but swimming in a river with piranhas are surprisingly safe.

We're all guilty of knee jerk reactions and letting fear control our actions, but the best way of avoiding it as much as possible is looking into yourself, exploring your own opinions instead of shutting out all dissenting voices, and not resort to name calling and lying to further your agenda. If we can determine blackness and masculinity as a number from 0 to 1, where 0 is "John McCain"-white and 1 is "Flavor Flav"-black. For masculinity you'd have 0 for "Steve Urkle" and 1 for ... well, this guy. We can then determine the privilege level on a p2 = b2 + m2

Lots of people (men and women) are sociopaths Which, by the way, is one of the huge reasons the justice system needs countermeasures for abusing it. Normal people just don't do that unless they have a fucking huge reason to, but a sociopath might do it just for fun or because they're bored.

When he actually died, she never noticed. You're contradicting yourself: He didn't have time for her, and ignored her when he did pick her up for the weekend. Which is it, was he seeing her once in a while or not? When she does find out he's dead, there's a good chance she gets angry at you for not telling her sooner. I'm really surprised such a flippant comment from my side sparked an interesting discussion. My take on why Sharkeesian is so disliked is that she's used the death threats, that were guaranteed to follow, into a money making scheme. The $150,000 from the kickstarter was apparently not enough, a week after posting about the death threats (which FBI says you should never talk about, which is why people speculate it was fabricated), she started another fundraiser. Not much. I told him he was wrong and Mens Rights focused on issues such as higher suicide rate, circumcision, child custody and more. He didn't reply to that. Even though self defense should be a legal option (and treated equally) no matter who the assailant is, that is a really good point to keep in mind. I think there's no good ethical solution to that, but I live in Norway and men are forced to serve a year while women are not. As long as men are forced to serve, I think women also should either have to serve or pick civil service. The findings show that the more testosterone, the later a person will start to talk and the center that's involved with empathy is slightly less developed. From that, kids will be less involved with toys concerning socializing and empathy, rather preferring toys involving systems, …

Wow this turned out to quite the discussion, but you're right though and I was wrong. I just misunderstood the quote. The difference is as you've pointed out a 50% chance of it happening ever vs. a 50% chance of experiencing an instance of abuse. Edit: That latter doesn't make any sense at all.... I don't know why I though about it like that at all.

I'd be for it if they also taught that boys can say no and there's nothing wrong with you if you don't want sex. Girls need to respect guys when they say no. I'm not taking a switch here, this is really an issue some guys experience (not me though, I'm ugly as fuck :-P ).
/r/MensRights30/06/14 05:39 AM

Technically it's correct, if there's a 50% chance means that at most 1 in 2 would get raped, but it would likely be less than that and some are raped more than once.

Well put, glad you're not living up to your username. I speculate that this hostile skepticism is an effect of the string of scams that ran during the early years of Reddit. Once a culture has started to ingrain itself into the population it spreads even to those not having been affected by it. An example would be how homophobia spreads to people that have never even been inconvenienced by them. So we end up with a bunch of redditors that are so afraid of looking gullible they instantly reject a…

I've laughed at rape jokes, but NEVER to one that was "it's funny because women must love to be raped" as that's what Bill did towards men here. The joke has rather been quite the contrary. Example: "Statistically, 9 out of 10 people enjoy gang rape".

Instead of arguing whether the "original notion of feminism" point is true or not (I wouldn't know anyway), I would agree that I get the impression that the majority of MensRights support the idea that women and men should have the same rights and responsibilities. We shouldn't be required to work on womens issues by the same token that nobody AFAIK berates S…

I've had a serious heart disease caused by a muscle disease. Last year I had a heart transplant. Being stoic and attempting to deal with it on my own was my reaction. It's likely a reaction to my childhood where not being fit enough and showing pain was looked down upon (I've talked with a therapist about this as part of the postop care), so I've gained a lot of tolerance for pain and naturally didn't tend to talk about health issues/pain (getting better, at least towards my MD).

I have several issues with what you're bringing up. You are juding the entirery of /r/mensrights on a minority of posts. That seems very similar to saying all Muslims are violent rapists based on the small minority you see portrayed in media. There are feminists seriously trying to shut down any mensrights gatherings. One of the arguments given regarding that is we should support feminism instead since feminism works for mens rights as well. According to you, that would be hard when we can't even voice our concerns.

Insecure? I find that strange since I used to be very insecure in my early 20s and had the view that women were superior to men, so I would have been the perfect white knight. 10 years later I've found my confidence and see that everyone has their flaws and strengths, women are no different. So, at what rate are souls moving into hell and at what rate are souls leaving? I think we can safely assume that once a soul gets to hell, it will not leave. Therefore, no souls are leaving. Anyone have any thoughts as to why this might be? I have one hypothesis, but .... well, I'm not a psychologist so consider this heavy speculation: Maybe they innately expect more from females. My train of though was that if the professors felt they were among a boys club and had a tough time getting to where they are, this usually comes with heavy self criticism. They might be projecting this feeling onto the female students.

I'm sure those are a large part of rapes that happen, but the media will focus on the types of rapists that are "on the hunt". A horny rapist such as that is likely to check around for the easiest victim, looking for someone walking alone, drunk and halfway undressed.
