As an example, women who have given birth and had kidney stones say that kidney stones are the more painful of the two. The NCFM (a men's activist group) has brought a lawsuit on the federal level, and won, to have selective service/the draft declared unconstitutional due to gender discrimination. It's a similar situation for the arguments around the earning gap, where "emotional labour" and work done in their own private residences is counted for women, but only formal paid work is counted for men. My favorite was the study that counted washing dishes, doing laundry etc (traditionally "women's work"), but didn't count yard maintenance, fixing up the house, car maintenance, etc (traditionally "men's work"). Literally any woman will be issued one automatically. It's a short term restraining order, it means absolutely nothing and requires absolutely no evidence to obtain. Men, too. I saw it when I worked in social services all the time. The purpose of a restraining order isn't to say "he/she did it", it's to say "we don't know what's going on here, so you two should stay away from each other until we do." Another reason for the military's "progressive" attitude is because it's a federal workplace. The feds are much stricter with all of the HR stuff in general. Back in my Army days, we had more sexual assault, sexual harassment, etc trainings every couple months than I've had at all of my other jobs combined. I think the point is more that it's a totally unnecessary (for most people) procedure. There are risks, as there are with any other surgery, and performing what essentially amounts to cosmetic surgery on an infant's genitals is extremely unethical. I went to a fairly liberal university within the last 10 years, and my SOC and CRIM classes made it pretty clear that this disparity wasn't in dispute. It was quite uncontroversial, and the data has shown that for quite some time. Despite that, we have people like OP trying to pretend it doesn't exist. It's so bizarre.

I don't speak to people I care about like that. What she described is typical verbal abuse. I saw it all the time when I worked in social services. It starts with that, and the physical abuse is never far behind. In my experience, women were far more likely to do both (verbal and physical), and had much less trouble seeing it as a problem.
