Going through it now, divorce is in process and will be settled by september. For me, I knew what my ex was before I left and I am glad to be out of it. The thing thats killing me is cash, I need more of it to help support our two boys. Its brutally hard.

Its funny how some films teach you applicable life lessons. In this case 300 taught me "no retreat, no surrender. That is spartan law". Mate, move forward and dont look back. You're separated for a reason.

After we decided to split, her parents said it might be a good idea for therapy. We went and what i would say might surprise you. It wasnt a waste of money due to how eye opening it was. I saw how truly hateful she was toward me, and there was a witness. In one session she said "if anyone needs therapy its him" to which there was a myriad of responses but settled on a DeNiro "Mmm hmmm". Ah well, therapy is good for some couples but prepare to be tired after each session.

Yeah its tough trying to navigate divorce itself, kids emotions and lack if employment. To be honest though, the odds are stacked against men like me, but I am of the thinking that this will make me better

I am glad/sorry that I am not alone in this. I was close to my exes family. My ex has made it clear to them they are not to talk to me at all. Its fine, however, her brothers called me up a few weeks back saying "we still love you dude, so we will see you down the line". All i can say is, just do right by you and her family that wanna stay in contact. I trust that mine and your ex will find out they can't control everyone.

Oh loads of things. But one thing specifically was she would leave her coats or some of her clothes on the stairs. I would ignore said clothes because: A) we were split up B) who leaves clothes on the stairs? She would use it as an excuse to have a go at me as I'd tidy up after the kids and not her.

Without knowing your story I cant really say much mate. I can, however, empathise with what you've said. Its really difficult being without a woman you truly love and it definitely affects how you view the world

Oh definitely, its a rollercoaster for sure. If I came across like this is easy, I know its not. I just wanted to encourage people in the trenches.

Forgive yourself dude. Was it a good look? No. Will you learn from this. Yes I think many men have been where you are and they got through it. Just like you will

Hey man, I am almost the same boat. I did my healing about 2 years before my wife told me of her intent to divorce 6 months ago. I joined a dating app 2 weeks back and i can say my standard for looks hasn't really changed, but its the personality I am really looking at. If they display anything I dont like I just block and move on.

I could have written that myself. Why not do both? Get yourself on your feet and explore new relationships? Its what I am doing. I am two weeks into a dating app (haven't been on one since 2014) and its been fun. Just dont put any pressure on yourself. You're going through a lot and time does allow you perspective. You've got this mate!

I always chalk it up to "muscle memory". I think its normal for you to feel this. Some people on here will tell you that you should do "this" or "that" but ultimately you'll make the best choices for you. Separation and divorce are tough, but anyone who makes you feel bad for wanting basic affection is not worth it. Believe me, I'm in a similar position to you.

I felt every word of this man. We told the kids we are splitting up today. It was rough. Thing is, for me there's incentive to be a good man, not for anyone else. Just for me.

"No retreat, no surrender. That is spartan law" Words from a silly film (300) but words i have taken to heart. An ex is in the rear view mirror for a reason. Forwards fella, forwards you go

I am sorry you're going through all that, and i bet that what you wrote is the tip of the iceberg. A lot of what you said resonated with me. I am currently separated but living under the same roof. One of the things that helped me in conflict was to try to predict the outcome as it flares up. So, for example, when my ex wife would be in a mood and try to argue or pick at me, i would visualise/imagine me responding and the subsequent argument. I would see her using old faults, times i failed and …

Hey man, nearly exact same boat here. Been separated a few weeks under the same roof and this'll be my last Christmas here with the kids. The future does seem daunting, but for me I think i am looking forward to the peace away from my soon to be ex. I know the kids will be affected but if they see a more relaxed father it may help then adjust to things. If you need a chat mate just holla, I've found sharing and talking actually helps make the future not look terrifying.

Hey man. As a fellow man, I understand what grief is, and right now you're in mourning. You're mourning the life you have, and the life you thought you'd have. I've also been heartbroken before, and I wouldn't wish it on anyone. That being said, it made me stronger, and it took years to sink in. I guess, what I'm trying to say is, whatever the pain, whatever the obstacles, you can get through it. We are in the high risk age bracket for men and self termination. Please don't even entertain though…

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
