My definition of a dress is a shirt-like top with a piece of wrap-around cloth on the bottom with no pant-leg division. No reason there couldn't be a dress designed for male dimensions. Me - I don't believe today's men conspire to denigrate women or actively block their equality... I think there are socially acceptable norms that are perpetuated by men AND women that are harmful to both sexes. But I still consider myself a feminist because I am pro-choice, think there should be more representation in state and federal government, and want more sane work-weeks so that it's easier for men AND women to be parents.

I am a woman and am totally in favor of over-the-counter paternity tests. It protects both men and women.... a man could make sure a woman wasn't cheating if she insisted the baby was his, and a woman would be able to get child support from someone who was disputing paternity. This is sad in the same way that pre-nups are sad... but it's protection, plain and simple. I don't think it prevents people from trusting each other; no one has to use one if they trust their partner.

Why not? Men have more free time outside of work and are more likely to have disposable incomes. Word. My opinion is that if an individual knows they never, ever, ever want to have kids, get a tubal ligation or a vasectomy. It'd be great if there was a male birth control pill on the market. If either party eventually wants to be able to have kids but isn't ready yet, you could use a male birth control, a female birth control pill, condoms, and spermicide all at the same time so those pesky sperm and eggs have NO chance! :)

In WA, the woman has to provide a pay stub from the man's employer. And if the man takes a lower paying job, he can submit a pay stub to show as such and his payments will be lowered. The US laws are good in theory; you're entitled to your job after six weeks of maternity leave. I think the real issue is length of maternity/paternity leave, the fact that there isn't a requirement you be paid during those six weeks, and lack of affordable child care. There's zero daycares in my area that will take a six week old infant.... so the mom or dad has to take off work until the kid is old enough for childcare. In that case, their job is not guaranteed to be there when they get back.

I agree with everything you've said here -- and I think that molestation of kids by women is probably under-reported because of sexual attitudes. I have a couple of guy friends who were molested at 11 and 12 by their 22-year-old attractive female babysitter... but they thought it was kinda cool instead of wrong. She was pretty sarcastic with her -- said that she'd do her best, but didn't have enough staff to make sure it would always be a female nurse. This issue is something I've thought a lot about, though -- women tend to freak about having a male gyno, but men don't seem to care as much about having a female proctologist (although that's a lot more rare). Personally, I prefer a dude because they are WAY more careful.

Hrm.... I think that will get better, though. I'm white and not always in agreement with affirmative action practices when it comes to race, but I don't get called a racist for it, for example. And the tide is definitely turning on feminists... the old guard have really kinda turned off my generation to old school feminism.

Patients do have a choice when it comes to what gender the nurse is, but not if there's only one floor nurse on shift, which was the case with my husband. After the woman left, his supervisor just kind of rolled her eyes and said she'd tell him if the woman checked in through the front desk so that he could make sure not to be near her baby if she was around.
