Oppressor vs oppressed dynamics come into play also which is why some view points that are considered progressive may be viewed as the opposite when the groups involved are changed

Anybody past a certain age should be well aware that fear is based on perception and not statistical analysis. Women are more afraid of the random man than a bear because for a myriad of reasons, their perception has been shaped that way. Statistically? Sure you can say it’s an absurd and stupid argument. But again, and I can’t stress this enough, fear is not based on a statistical analysis

1/3 women attacked by a man does not mean 1/3 men attack women

I understand it’s frustrating because there’s not a lot we can do about the men that cause this perception as individuals. But doing statistical breakdowns on answers that weren’t based on statistics is a pointless endeavour The women will also tell you that the bear or the man is not the important point, but the real life, real issues they have faced. And for 99.99% of them, more issues have been caused by men than bears, so I don’t even know why their answers are sparking outrage

Being real it was never meant to be about rationality. It’s a thought experiment to highlight women’s fears, and we all know fear is based on perception, not actual statistics. Complaining to women that their fear doesn’t have a statistical basis misses the point entirely. They are trying to convey that they have this fearful perspective, and that there are reasons for it. They aren’t trying to do statistical analysis lol

To be fair to the women, history has set a really low bar for safer than ever

None of what I’ve said is supposed to be definitive proof of a patriarchy just evidence. Whether all the evidence adds up to a patriarchal society well, there is no authority that decides this so naturally there will be open debate over this. I think a lot of opinions on feminism are based on the vocal minority of feminists, but they are definitely not a monolith. We live in a society now where whatever gets the most clicks is what we see, regardless of whether that is representative of what the…

Patriarchy was explicitly mentioned in the original comment I replied to, I didn’t try to shoehorn it in at all. Also I don’t know how to do the quoting thing sorry, I’ll have to reply like this. In response to a couple of your points though, women may have slightly higher voting numbers, but their choice of candidates to vote for is overwhelmingly male. I know about women making majority of consumer decisions and to be honest and of course men don’t keep their salaries to themselves. But the am…

In slide 5 I felt a lot of things were basically the same. Like I don’t see how possessiveness is separarte from a desire for control Also, slide 9 was strange - are you arguing feminists have never mentioned absentee fathers? Or they don’t criticise religious zealots? When if there is anything we can say is definitely patriarchal, it’s organised religions? Maybe it’s because I’m from the UK but I feel my experience with feminists is very different to what people in this sub seem to have had.

So I don’t really have a concrete definition. But men seem to be the definitive decision makers, holders of economic power, passers-on-of-family-names. Women make less money (as a whole, I’m not talking about “pay gap”) And that’s just in the west. Most major religions are patriarchal, women face honour killings, FGM as a result. That said, I think it also occurs naturally based on our collective mating choices and what we select for in our partners What I don’t think is that “the patriarchy” is…

It’s not as overbearing in the western world as certain groups would make you think, but it still exists. Whether that translates into a material advantage for men or not, is up for debate. Some Feminists seem to think it doesn’t, which is why they’re on a whole “men need feminism too”. Others view it as self-inflicted so they don’t care Maybe it’s something they believe, or maybe it’s just something they say to get men on board. I think that’s down to the individual making the statement. Both s…

I kinda get the impression they do it as a side note so they can keep up that feminism is meant for everyone

Most feminists I’ve come across say the patriarchy affects everyone, not that it benefits all men First part of your statement is bang on the money though

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
