So many 'isms' can be explained pretty succinctly as "preserve the dominant hegemony".

The majority of sexism against both sexes serves to uphold the hetero-monogamous marital unit/nuclear family and things that defy that are often seen negatively. Not only homosexuality but also people who are asexual or uninterested in marrying. Boys can be seen as husband-father in training, girls as mother-wife, and being gay makes you (theoretically) ineligible for these roles.

I don't think it's incorrect to say she wasn't thinking of him by not telling him, but getting an abortion 2 months in, it seems a bit harsh to frame that as 'better suitors are out there'

That's an extremely disingenous way to frame not wanting to have a child with your partner of mere weeks.

That does make me think of the weird double standard towards nonbinary people where someone AFAB can call themselves she/they without changing anything about their gender presentation, and it's fine, but AMAB nonbinary have to "prove" they aren't just regular men with a much higher standard of evidence. The same people who get really angry at the accusation that transwomen are just men trying to 'sneak into women's spaces' still very much enjoy gatekeeping as long as the people being gatekept ar…

I see a lot of views that are contradictory to me: "There's a male loneliness epidemic; men don't have friends" "Men need therapy" "Your friends aren't your trauma dumping ground" Yet often despite these slogans you'll eventually whittle down to the understanding that therapy is sometimes used as a substitute for the support of people you have an organic bond with. Professional help is useful when you have specific issues to address, but going to the shrink isn't supposed to replace having a sen…

The psychology 101 theory of 8 life crisis stages says the very first crisis the typical person goes through is the trust-mistrust of their parents and main adult caregivers. I somehow feel like being physically injured (notably, often without proper anesthesia) by the adults entrusted with your life could possibly leave some mark. Nobody consciously remembers this even if it was done in infancy, but it seems like on a balance starting the first few weeks of your life physically injured vs not d…

One of the reasons that women died more in shipwrecks, specifically, before the Titanic era is because: All staff and trained sailors were male thus those more at ease at sea were men; Women wore huge dresses that would get bogged down in water and were impossible to swim in compared to male clothing that was less absorbant. If anything, swapping petticoats for pants and thin cotton dresses was probably a more helpful 'feminist innovation' here than any policy.

It's wild to me how often women can justify behavior that qualifies as sexual harassment because it isn't motivated by sexual attraction. That is how some women feel it's warranted to get handsy with gay men and other women - 'it isn't a sex thing', as if that really makes it okay.

Pronouns are a closed class of word that don't get things added to them willy-nilly. Singular they has enough enduring record of common usage to be acceptable. Words don't just get invented. There's no 'we' to get on with it. That's not how languages work.

It specifically calls her a lesbian at one point. Do you just assume all women are trans unless they say "Tanya, who is not transgender btw," in the article?

She does not 'identify' as a woman. She is not trans. She was not assigned male at birth. You didn't read the article because the perpetrator in question is a biological female, assigned female at birth, while she is also a lesbian.

Instead of bothering with writing all that I should have said "because I don't want to." I NEVER worry about the things you are stereotyping women to worry about. If you feel that way every time you see a female human in public there's very little difference between you and a girl who has an inordinately high fear of rape.

Because I take my fitness seriously and a lot of female gyms are kneecapped. Because I am generally more comfortable around men, and on the rare occasions I have a gym buddy, he's either a guy or one particular transwoman. Because I don't want the aformentioned transwoman to go through the awkwardness of worrying she 'isn't female enough for the female gym' while also definitely not being male enough for the male gym. Because having overblown fear and hostility towards the other sex is the worst…

Teacher perspective here: I reasonably assume these accounts are run by randoes and not sanctioned by the school. There's a pervasive double standard that a mentally ill woman deserves a romantic partner in her corner as she builds herself up, but that if a mentally typical woman discovers a man she likes is mentally ill, she should run for the hills until he 'figures himself out' However there's still the caveat that the 'I Can Fix Him' girls who want to be near-motherly to man with issues still exist in droves. This legitimately doesn't apply if he has diagnosed borderline personality disorder. Extremely dysfunctional cyclical romantic relationships with a 'target person' are common with this mental condition and a BPD sufferer would be very noble to avoid getting into a relationship if they haven't done the self-work yet.

I had a guy I didn't want talking to me talking to me at a bar over the weekend. He introduced himself and was going on and I was just like: "I don't care. Leave me alone." I think many people, especially women, are too afraid to be rude. But sometimes just being rude gets you left completely alone. They think they're being 'verbally held hostage' because they project a level of potential danger in the interaction that might not actually be there.

Yes it's a massive problem for both genders. However I don't think virginity and the so-called psychopathy are fully dichotomous. Though I don't think you were insisting that's the case either.

I have creeped boys out before. I know from experience it can happen. I don't want to do it more. Maybe the word 'creep' isn't what gets used, but the experience of making a romantic prospect uncomfortable despite your intentions, while more skewed to men, is not exclusive to men. I find it hard to believe I need to explain this on a sub that goes on a lot about female-perpetuated sexual harassment.
/r/MensRights19/08/22 02:03 PM

Quite simply the radfem view is the most extreme version of the basic 'females are victims, males are threats'. To them the reason an AFAB person would become a man is to escape the horror of being a woman, therefore they're victims and mislead. Meanwhile the reason an AMAB person would become a woman is to infiltrate womanhood, or to victimize. Or even more simply, some of the biggest radfems hate men so much that becoming a woman still isn't enough to absolve them of the fundamental sin of bei…

No. Women feel a LOT more comfortable emoting with other people, including family and platonic friends. How much do women continue to hug family and friends into adulthood compared to men? How embarassing is it for a women to cry in front of someone compared to a man? Of course your romantic relationship should be a haven for you to express the full extent of your deepest thoughts, but the issue arises that a lot of men find their female partners to be the ONLY outlet, which creates a tunnel-vis…

I think it IS a genuine problem that for a big chunk of society, men don't have good outlets to let out their emotional problems and wind up putting a lot of it on the women they date, not out of malice, but because a romantic relationship is one of the only contexts where a lot of men feel like they can be emotionally vulnerable. This means that in many cases women feel like they have 'work to do' helping to be a soundboard for the traumas and troubles of their male partners, which can be exhau…

Yeah but you need to recognize that 'refuse to date anyone for any reason' might be a right but it can be fueled by a bad reason. Like I've never been involved with a black person. That's my right. I simply haven't felt that spark of attraction with any, and based on where I live, I really don't meet that many black people either. If I'm saying my reason for not being interested in black people is purely physical attraction and lack of access, that's okay, but if I was like, 'I don't wanna date …

I think it manifests differently. Other than the bizarre obsession with preserving their adolescent daughter's virginity, I don't see men with daughters get quite on the same level of emotional incest as often.

I won't put it so directly. My observations lead me to think a lot of the women who produced the baby with a.... sub-optimal partner....tend to idolize their son as 'the one man who will never let me down' and that can get real toxic.
/r/MensRights04/12/21 10:54 PM

Nobody here has mentioned it, but some single mothers can develop unhealthy boundaries and unusual levels of clinginess towards their sons, especially if their son is their only child. It may serve to create a codependent dynamic that leads to the boy feeling beholden to stay 'within the reach' of his mother in the longer term.

The absolute disdain a great number of my female colleagues have for male students is one of the many reasons I hate my job lol. You also look at the second chart a bit differently once you read the first. The first shows that more divorces are initiated by women and more women get child custody. When you examine what a child to be fatherless versus what could cause a child to be motherless it gives us a lot more explanation for the disparity in chart 2. I kinda think it would be idiotic to look at this chart and say 'this is definitive proof that Dads are more important than Moms'.

It's pretty well documented that although many women say that it's men that put pressure on things like gender roles and beauty standards, the truth is that people of a certain sex put pressure on their own sex's standards. So women are more likely to be the enforcers of women, and men of men.

I think the reason this seems so contradictory is that some women want a 'sensitive man' and some women want a 'manly man' and some women want a man that doesn't fit into either catergory. It's not about the women. IT's about the kids. And people, in general, get hit more in the feels by seeing homeless children. Perhaps it's because we see children as being innocent, or that homeless kids are wasted potential, or that kids on the street obviously didn't do it to themselves through drug addiction, irresponsibility, etc. So what I've been trying to say, over an over, is that many people want to get KIDS off the street first. Once again, it's the children being put in focus here. Women are more likely to have the kids WITH THEM when homeless. That is why it's worded that way. I think maybe as a concept patriarchy is a valid concept but 'The Patriarchy' is not. It's the same as other words that Feminism has sabotaged and made meaningless. I believe TRP has a few interesting concepts grounded in reality, but they fall short by neglecting two essential things about human interaction: First, that although biological aspects still influence people's behavior, especially in seeking a partner, there's a lot more to socializing than the rather humans-are-animals-based view frequently expressed there. Secondly, they also presume that everyone has the same wants and desires in a partner. I will tell you right now that nothing TRP preaches…

seeing as 99% I go to the women's, yes. The women's at my university dorm is the grossest place ever and I no longer enjoy bathing. At the university I used to go to, the dorms had both-sex bathrooms. This is a minor point in your story, but I really don't understand why bathrooms that have only one room with a toilet and sink are separate sex, when literally only one person can use it at a time. At this point I can literally get a year's worth of pills for what it costs me for one pack of condoms. I hate being a girl, I have it so hard.

I've never seen a female condom so I'm not sure if I have any basis in what I'm saying, but to me the inside of a vagina doesn't seem as consistently shaped as a penis, and when I imagine what a female condom looks like, it seems like it would get all weird and bunched up, which doesn't sound particularly comfortable. As far as 'desensitizing', regardless of who's wearing the condom, they're still banging a piece of rubber so it doesn't seem that different in that regard.

Why would she even think she'd get a half-decent girl haircut at a man-only barber shop? To me barber shops is where men with low-maintenance 'dos go to get a trim. So unless she was there to get a mushroom cut I feel she just went in there specifically to push buttons.

Whenever I see Nova Scotia get mentioned on Reddit, I'm like 'yay, my home province!' then I read the actual sentence and need to say 'ugh, my homeprovince...' EDIT Now I realize I've seen these from time to time, never bothering to read the little text, only the big stuff. And understanding it at 'DOME' and not 'do me' with a space in between. Not sure if that means the message was effective or ineffective.

Honestly I see almost no difference in this logic than saying that interacting with men is a good way to see women raped. I am not a rapist, so I won't rape. I am not someone who is looking to unfairly exploit systems in order to steal people's money, so I won't do that either. I want to get married for traditionalist reasons. I would not want to be in a long-term 'partnership' if it wasn't marriage. I also don't want to get a divorce but that's looking a bit too far ahead.

What the hell. Statutory rape shouldn't be statutory rape when there's only two years in between. I remember when I had just turned eighteen and my boyfriend was still seventeen we had sex and I told him afterwards 'I'm technically a sex offender now' Of course me being the female I'm sure we can twist anything to make him look like the bad guy.

Love this, it becomes a problem if men just try to steal some oppression pie from feminists. Pretty soon it will be the 'matriarchy' that causes men to suffer at the hands of a secret woman organization. Not to say that I haven't already seen such a sentiment pop up now and again.

I dunno man, I'm just annoyed that anything ever needs to be an 'exclusive club' or a 'subculture for the marginalized'. If I like cartoons and Nintendo and science fiction and star wars, does that make me a geek? Or do I also need to have the accompanying awkwardness? Is my awkwardness measured on a different scale since I'm a girl? And provided that I do like geek-y things, does my physical attractiveness or other personal attributes make me a phony? Ever seen this show from Morgan Spurlock (supersize me) where him and some buddies lived as Cavemen for a week? There were three women: two sat around and did NOTHING BUT BITCH for five straight days, and one was a total badass who was an important factor in their successful hunting of a caribou.

I read somewhere that pulling out as the sole method of contraception is like 80% effective compared to 99% for a condom. So, not good enough to be used by itself but not actually that terrible. And of course he always plays the 'if I don't pull out we'll finish at the exact same time' routine so I usually succumb.
/r/MensRights08/08/13 01:24 PM

What. I got freaked out because I missed three whole pills in march and though 'oh god this is the end' In March me and my boyfriend had sex a total of once. And he pulled out. These anecdotes make me a lot more confident in the reliability of the pill - if people get preg on the pill, they were almost definitely only 'kinda' on the pull.

I take mine at 10:01 PM which is a great time because I'm usually at home. If I'm not home I take it around 12:30 when I get home. I haven't missed a pill in 5 months (and then it's because I literally lost the box for a few days - fell behind a dresser) How can people be that incapacitatingly stupid to not be able to swallow a small piece of medicine every day.

The black figures are prob the 'falsely convicted' and many of the beige are the falsely blamed...although if someone got raped, and then didn't know the identity of who did it, then there IS a rapist out there who is not convicted. So some of the beige ones are un-punished legit rapists.

Like if you're an adult female who likes MLP you're actually in very good shape, because no one thinks it's weird or perverted. Same how it's okay for us to love Disney princesses. But once a guy does it it's messed up. So I think pegasisters definitely have it better.

I'm definitely against it, they were mad for saying that 'it could kill you' is not the best argument against it since it kills a tiny, tiny sliver of people (in the double digits per year) and they should instead focus on other things such as: being unnecessary, doing something permanent to someone's body when they are unable to consent, future loss of sexual pleasure/crap ability to masturbate/dry ugly glans (I've seen pics, eh.) and all sorts of things like this instead of 'did you know that …

Interesting view. I got torn to morsels here once for saying that you 'probably won't die from circumcision' and someone started blasting me with links about all the bad shit that happens from getting circumcised, WELL I guess I was wrong. I don't support the 'don't even deal with women at all' view that is sometimes seen here, because saying 'if you marry a woman, she'll hurt you, divorce you, take your stuff, money and children, and then tell the cops you beat her' is like the male equivalent …

I'm not saying their genitals are wrong either! I'm saying to be told that circumcision is damaging can make someone who is circumcised feel as though there's something wrong with their penis, because it's been circumcised, and circumcision is bad.

Um the abnormal brain development really surprises me and seems weird. Everything else is very valid though. Okay let me try this again: I'm not saying there aren't dangers, I don't think there aren't dangers, but the main reason circumcision is bad is because it's completely unnecessary. The other guy who replied to me said 'would you like to get cut open and sewn back up for no reason, even if you didn't die from it?' and the answer is OF COURSE NOT, it doesn't matter if it winds up hurting you or if it doesn't, at the end of the day it just doesn't need to happen in the first place, even if you do c…

Because it isn't necessary, and I know that. I specifically said it wasn't necessary, which is the main reason why it doesn't need to be done. You probably won't die, but you're not benefiting, so the example you gave me exactly right.

I'd estimate at least a quarter of the people who die due to pen caps are also children. I don't think pen caps and circumcision are in any way equal, but at the same time, I think the lack of benefit from circumcision is a much stronger point to argue than the potential risks.
/r/MensRights28/06/13 02:40 PM

Circumcision is unlikely to result in death, at least in developed countries, and in terms of surgery it has pretty good odds. Nonetheless the issue is that it's not a particularly necessary surgery, so even if you don't die from it, it's still an operation that doesn't give you benefit, risk or no risk.

They're using their own arguments against themselves in a way. In many historical societies that had 'no female tyrants and generals', it wasn't because women were too kind to be tyrannical, but because they didn't have the means to attain that kind of political power. When women DID get power, their odds of being bloodthirsty were about the same.

Lots of physical problems become more likely the older the mother is. After 35, it's harder to conceive. Multiples are more likely. Down syndrome is more likely. I even heard that kids born to moms under 25 are more likely to live to 100 but that's a hard thing to measure so take it with a grain of salt.

My breasts are small enough that a punch to the boob would be like a punch to the ribs. I would say if a cunt-punt makes contact with the clitoris that it would be horribly painful, like getting hit on the penis tip, however the main reason that there's no direct analogy in female is because testicle strikes cause a weird sensation: a fraction of a second without pain, and then cramping pain through the lower stomach. Atheists like to moan about how it's unrealistic for believers to say 'it's up to you to prove God DOESN'T exist instead of me proving he does', but when you think of it, that does make sense. It's a lot easier to prove something DID happen than to prove its absence.
