All good points, and I am a woman (54F) in a LTR who recognizes that I (think) I want marriage due to all the social conditioning around it I’ve received as a woman, but who, on the other hand, has many of the same reservations about marriage that my LTR partner has — financial aspects, lack of freedom to leave if one or both of us start to check out of the relationship, etc. For women, it is very hard to let go of all the social baggage of marriage, but for older couples, there aren’t that many…

What a great post! Keep on making YOU your top priority and being open to joy in your life. Your happiness, confidence, and aura of success will be kryptonite repelling LVM and like catnip attracting HVM.

I tired of this nonjudgmental bs. This deserves judging. She needs to judge him the hell out of her life. Yikes.

Blanche all the way. She had no time for men who weren’t bringing it all to the table.

I never thought I was pretty when I was younger, in fact would have said I was average. But now, in my mid-fifties, I am suddenly considered quite pretty— for my age —because I took care of my health, stayed out of the sun, didn’t gain weight, and stayed fit. Also my bone structure (too high cheekbones and chubby cheeks) works well in an aging face. But it’s weird now, to be treated differently than I was when I was younger.

OMG she’s been watching porn and thinks it is a road map for a relationship. She’s going to be a “cool girl” fuckdoll and then wonder why no one wants a genuine romance with her. Just no. Gotta be a man trolling as a woman.

Yep, WTH is right. It was a learning experience I needed to go through as a newly divorced woman — really made me wake up and realize my worth and what I won’t put up with.

She wasn’t, actually. Believe me, I have stepped it up. Currently in committed relationship with a guy who is loving, kind, very successful in his field, and puts his money where his mouth is in treating me like I’m the best thing that’s ever happened to him. Not that everything is perfect 100% of the time, but it is a real relationship with no manipulation or game-playing.

I met his wife and liked her, we were actually sort of friendly for a while. She put up with him for 20 years and then bailed out. Funny thing was, she hated makeup and nail polish and her refusal to “doll up” for him was an issue between them, according to him. As far as I could tell from talking to her is that she seemed very very bitter over the whole experience and wasn’t interested in ever dating anyone again, even though they divorced like 7 or 8 years ago.

Well, since you asked ... he did have a pretty long list of preferences about how a woman should look and act. Which he was not shy about trying (unsuccessfully) to force on me. Including, but not limited to: -high heels only, even at the grocery store -full face of makeup, even first thing in the a.m. at breakfast and at the gym, and will be demanded at sexy time or he can’t get it up. We’re talking eighties-style makeup, not the natural look! -pants, skirts, dresses should be worn super tight …

Not for long. Totally cured my pickme phase. I’d rather not be picked if that’s what’s on offer, even though I’m over the hill (53) and pickings are slim.

There’s tons of guys in their 70s on the dating sites. I’m a woman in my early 50s and most of the messages I would get when I was doing OLD were from men 65+. The only guys my own age who would message were complete man-children, literally addicts and mental cases. My boyfriend right now is 66 (13 yrs older), but an active and successful 66.

Yes, for dates all he wanted to do was go to FREE concerts at the local casino and dance. Would do this weird little “boxing” thing while we were dancing, throwing little play punches at my midsection. Soooooo weird.

Lol, of course. Unfortunately I dated him for a few months (just out of my divorce) and in that period of time, he tried to convince me to let him put my name on his mortgage (it was still in his exes’ name 6 years post-divorce since he couldn’t qualify on his own due to fixed SS income). He was also still talking to other women on the dating site the whole time. When I broke up with him he insisted that I was a fool to let a “good man” like him get away. Lol, I survived.

Jeezus. I (53F) went out on a date with a guy who listed 55 in his profile header (for matching), and 60 in the body of his profile. He turned out to be 70. But he said it shouldn’t matter because all his friends told him he “looked 49”. And cause, you know, “women lie about their age AND their weight”.

My ex-husband (55 M) and I (50F) separated for a year (he “wasn’t sure he wanted to be married anymore”) and had a short period of trying to reconcile, with me moving back into the house after he begged me to come back. His anger issues were a big problem throughout the marriage but he promised me upon reconciling that it would change. I told him I would be out of there if his temper exploded. Reconciliation lasted about 3 weeks before he had a major temper tantrum over me coming home at 8 pm on…

I got this a few times and my feeling is that it comes from guys who are looking for friends with benefits or some other iteration of a woman who will have no expectations of them.

Going back to the time when men had to ensure maximal progeny potential in their partner. You know, to keep the farm running.
