This was a triumph. I'm making a note here, great success.

Sometimes it's tough being the voice of reason, isn't it? Especially when emotions get involved, and it becomes all about the escalation.

How do you feel about men who are raped?

48% of the species, I believe. Having spied on r/MensRights for a while, it'd be hard to prove that there isn't a sense of marginalization.

Which is why you fine folks would be in tune with third-wave feminism - equality for all! ;)

Exactly. Which is why when male survivors and female survivors are living in the same shelter having the other gender around can trigger the post traumatic stress.

Abused people are at risk for post traumatic stress disorder. One of the triggers can be staying with folks of the gender of the person that abused you. This is the logic behind segregated-gender shelters.

((it's because the mensrights subreddit is really a place for certain people and their buddies to spout off.)) You might want /r/equality instead.

Here's where it gets tricky. I'm a feminist and I agree that it's also an issue. I'd suggest that it's one of equality - shelters exist because inequality remains. Shelters should be equal opportunity and this is somewhere that men and women and transfolk can work together because, yes, government lags. But because I want this to be an egalitarian issue I consider myself feminist. See?

My parents had the plan of "if we have a boy, he should look like his dad." and that was the entire logic they had on circumcision. You'd think that they'd think about it a bit more, though, no?

It's because women were historically taught that the best catch (economically) really was the best catch in all ways and any unpleasant behaviour could simply be changed. The tendency stuck. Yes it's very high school to want to 'change a man' but some women need their egos stoked more than others, I guess.

XX here. That list is simply stupid. I do the bike repairs (no car here) and the home improvement. As for sexual... if he doesn't do the sex right and doesn't read as much as desired, why stay? It's because women were historically taught that the best catch (economically) really was the best catch in all ways and any unpleasant behaviour could simply be changed. The tendency stuck.

Many women will agree with you.

Not an ask, but a suggestion. On CBC radio 1 they have a show called Asunder and it's about divorce. It's also a podcast. There are stories like yours - so many, that books have been written about them. I cannot remember the names, but maybe they'll help. EDIT: correcting my grammar, now that I'm sober. Glad you got the message anyway :) I'm so sorry.

Yes, the movement rather splintered, didn't it? What can I say? Every movement has its extremes.

No. That the rules should be institutionalized to be the same regardless of gender, thus eliminating gender bias.

The current status quo is not entirely friendly to women - who work outside the home, and then do the work inside of it as well. Were the men able to get the same time as women (for say childcare, postpartum, eldercare to name a few responsibilities) then the division of tasks would be more equal.

Third wave feminism is about egalitarianism. Welcome to the club :)

What about feminism as an egalitarian issue? As in, I consider myself a feminist because I want single (male) parents to have exactly the same rights as single (female) parents. I don't want the divorce courts stacked in a woman-takes-the-kids favour; these courts should never take parental gender into account. And I consider myself a feminist for saying so.

This is why feminism has largely been replaced by egalitarianism. It doesn't matter the gender of the single parent; they need support for being a single parent.

It's called third-wave feminism. Its trademark is "egalitarian" for example fighting for support services for single parents (mother or father) rather than simply supporting all mothers.

haha. May I posit that many women are so harried that they don't notice the change? The eyes see it, but the brain doesn't process it?

:) My grandmother was arrested for being a feminist; she taught my mother well. My mother had two daughters. Thank those above me.

... and that's why, when asked, we should say we're egalitarian.

Find as many feminists as you can. The whole logic behind it is gender equality. Yes there is a systemic bias right now (and it changes depending on where you are?) but there is help and support out there for you! Message me with a geographic location. My way of judging abuse is if I say "Rosie did xxx to Paul" is it as wrong as "Paul did xxx to Rosie"? Again depending on country (and State, if you're in America) the definitions of abuse are all slightly different.

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
