I agree that there is a certain amount of reductive perceptual shorthand that we have to adopt in order to function because everything is infinitely complex. I understand how and why we have come to think of masculinity and femininity in the way that we do. I just think that, at this point in human history, the generalizations are beginning to outlive their usefulness and create more problems than they solve.

I don't really believe in the straight/gay/bi/queer dichotomy. I think human sexuality is a lot more nuanced and complex than that. My point in the OP was mostly that masculinity and femininity are constructs - that we call these behaviors masculine and feminine because we observe them more often in men or in women, but we believe they are inherent qualities of men or of women.
