They were given the tools to defend themselves - US military grade weapons. They folded in what? A few days? Sorry if I’m bitter we gave them guns and equipment just to have them surrender or flee.

If we had a parallel universe where the women primarily had been armed (with weapons from the US, I might add), and where the men were left defenseless, and it was common for men to be raped by women, then sure, let those with means fend for themselves while the vulnerable are saved. But that’s not the situation you have in Afghanistan, I don’t get why you’re asking me about a situation that doesn’t exist. Ah I misread your comment and thought you were talking about the one where men were holding on to the outside. I think part of the reason people are so upset seeing men flee is because, from a US perspective, millions, billions of dollars were spent to train and arm afghan soldiers, only for them to flee, join the Taliban, or surrender their arms. I see what you’re saying, but still, in this situation would you advocate that more women stay in Afghanistan so young men can be rescued? Seems like a recipe for disaster if you ask me (considering that with the Syrian refugee crisis, the young men who did not conform to western society ended up garnering a ton of racism for the group as a whole). Like what should the balance be here? Maybe family units prioritized over single members of either gender?

There’s another picture circulating of the inside of a C17, packed with people fleeing. The overwhelming majority of those in the image were men. While I’d also criticize western feminism, I think it’s very different when you’re criticizing women fleeing the Taliban, who plan to exclude them from education and rape them.

I mean, to be fair, it’s pretty common that in times of warfare, women end up brutally raped at the hands of MEN. I think the reason you see less sympathy for men comes from a couple of things, including that a.) the perpetrators are men, b.) women and girls are being taken out of schools/jobs while men and boys are not, c.) many Afghan soldiers have surrendered to or joined the Taliban (this is unsurprising due to lack of patriotism, experience, etc, but this narrative takes away from those who…
