There are always lots of lies in divorce. You need to have your documentation straight to show the truth.

This shit like "man up, fuck your feelings" is why so many men struggle with mental health.

Wow that fucking sucks! Now you have to cut 2 people out of your life, and your own father! But yeah you don't need to name people.

No, she never worked our whole 11 year marriage. The mental illness was only diagnosed just over a year ago.

First off, you don't need to rush into one. In fact, it's best to be comfortable being alone first. Take time to work on yourself and figure out what you want and don't want. Try to arrange dates when you don't have the kids, so you're not bringing a lot of people into their lives short-term. It's not healthy for them. Wait until you see something being long-term before you introduce them into the picture. If they are good for your family, the boys will only benefit from the extra love and atten…

She would do it again, bro. She's lying. You have an opportunity now to get someone that contributes more to yours and your kids' future, instead of just good sex and lies.

Yeah, many dudes here have plenty of reasons to be angry and depressed the way the divorce system screws most of us over for many years after. OP is ignorant to not see that.

Anger is part of the grief process. Sometimes people just need to vent. I hope they can work past it eventually.

Great tips. I'm working on creating a social life and friendships again. I try to read this self help book "no more mr nice guy" when I have time before bed. I've been meaning to schedule with the dentist getting my one damaged tooth capped. I'm going to go do that today. I need to be more consistent with working out. I get too focused on everything else I need to do and that falls off too much. It really does help me a ton. I'll just add to be patient with yourself. All these changes won't happ…

You're not done processing the divorce and may not be for a while. Talk to a therapist to help you work through this. Learn to focus on healing and growing yourself instead of what she is doing.

Only benefit was taxes and car insurance was less. I'm getting screwed over much more than that benefit was worth. I'm not even religious. I wanted her to be on my great health insurance. I'm an idiot.

Stay sober, get a therapist, and focus on taking care of yourself. She sounds like she needs mental health help, too. You can suggest it, but she sounds like the type that won't listen to you. You can only do so much, and she isn't your responsibility anymore. Call for a wellness check next time she says she is going to commit suicide. They may check her in a hospital and force her to get the help she needs.

Mid-30s when it got bad. Before that, it was impulsive spending, bad social anxiety, and depression. She was OCD with cleaning at one time, but that went away. She used to steal from stores, too.

She had minor symptoms that frustrated me a bit for our 11 years of marriage but it didn't get bad until last year when she started hearing things and neglecting/endangering the children and abusing drugs. We've been divorced for 3+ months now.

Sorry, man. Once somebody is set on something like this, there is usually no changing their mind, barring medical reasons. If you really don't want kids, then divorce is the only real option.

It's something that should have been discussed before getting married. There are plenty of women I have seen on the dating apps that say they don't want kids.

She may be manic and hearing things. In the manic phase, they believe the voices are real and lose touch with reality. She should really see psychiatrist soon. My ex was hearing her dead dad and mom in her head, that they were a part of her, and believing it was real and she should do what they say. She was diagnosed with Bipolar. She is a completely different person now than the person I married. It is definitely good you don't have to deal with kids through this.

Read through the similar stories at r/BipolarSOs. You may find it's in your best interest not to continue like this. It likely won't get better unless she is way on top of her treatment. I had to divorce me Bipolar ex due to neglect of the children and she had an affair. I'm raising our 4 kids mostly on my own now but they are happy and in a stable environment.

You don't need to refinance since it is in your name. Buy her half of the equity out to her. Having the house would be favorable for custody, but that would be a separate decision of the courts, or you can settle out of court. To get the title just in your name, you do a quiet deed.

Just say you can't do it anymore and leave it at that. She is preying on you and playing you. It's not your problem anymore. Ghost her back

There is a whole large sub on that r/narcissisticparents , One thing I can think of is they tend to think about their own needs above the needs of the child.

This is essentially kidnapping if you take the kids as well and you will get in huge trouble, especially if you go to a country that is a big ally of the USA. Who would help you get settled and take care of the kids there? There are still bombs landing on innocent people there every day, so it's not exactly the safest place to be too.

Do you think she may have a mental illness, and that's why things changed all of sudden? A few of them, like bipolar comes in waves of different stages, so it could get bad all of sudden again. I wouldn't continue without her seeing a therapist.

It might confuse future prospects. A quick google search says some countries and cultures wear their wedding rings on the right hand. It was also said it may be to represent a same sex marriage. It might be less confusing if it's not on the ring finger though. Depending on your profession, it could also be a hazard.

They were distant friends I know on Facebook so not just some random women. They messaged me after the divorce and one was definitely direct in saying they could take care of my "needs."

At least you have an attractive FWB. I can't even find the energy to get myself out there for anything. I've had women I'm not attracted to proposition me but I'm not that desperate for sex.

Most states are unlikely to give sole custody to the father unless you have lots of damning evidence against the mother that shows it would be harmful for the kid to be with them.

All those things you did for the house still benefit you and your daughter, and now you can prioritize future projects for your wants and your daughters instead of the ex. It's great you still have your daughter in the house, and you have to stay strong for her. You can focus more now on strengthening that bond, too. Just focus on yourself and your daughter for now. One day, when you're ready, you can invite someone into your life who will appreciate all that you do.

I never heard of a free consultation. If you want to do it in secret, say you owe a friend money or something. Set up a checking account in your own name because you will need that during and after the divorce. Venmo yourself, maybe.

Alimony should always only be temporary for the purpose to get back on your own feet. It should automatically go away once they remarry or start living with a new SO. You shouldn't have to support someone while they are already being supported by another person.

Not old enough i think. I would call CPS next time it happens. They won't take the kid away from her unless they find more. They will make a visit and talk to her and the kids. You have official documentation of this if needed in the future.

It's sad that you are asking how not to be a dad anymore. If you want to cease being a dad though, you have nothing to prepare for and the courts and her will gladly take part of your assets based on your states laws and calculations and assign child support for you to pay and give her full custody. You don't even a need a lawyer if you have nothing you want to fight for. Just start the petition for divorce.

I haven't had a hearing yet, but the process in my state looks like that decision comes at the end of the divorce process. They can request spousal support before the divorce process is over, but they would only get what the other party can afford as they look at all expenses. My STBXW lawyer tried to trick me into paying them with lies. Don't listen to anyone but your lawyer and the court.
/r/Divorce_Men08/07/23 12:35 PM
1

Yes, my STBXW was a stay at home mom while the kids were not in full day school yet. I was mostly okay with it but encouraged her to try for part time work, start taking 1 class at a time for a degree or look for ways to make money at home as we have 4 kids and we will need the extra funds to provide for them long term. She did none of that. We had discussed once they go to full-time school, this needs to start. Mental illness hit her bad and she was not able to watch the kids safely anymore so …

They won't force him to pay for more than he can afford. She has to file for temporary relief/spousal support. They will ask for current expenses including children expenses and income on a sheet he will need to fill out and they will do the calculations.
