The linked article does not give the elderly man’s age but does say she stole approx $25k from him. According to the law in Illinois (Link) that would be a Class 2 Felony. If the male was 70 or older it is a Class 1 Felony. A Class 2 Felony carries a 3-7 year sentence (Link). A Class 1 Felony carries a 4-15 year sentence (Link). Edit: Typo

They certainly “can”. There is a business near me that refuses business to you if you are white (or appear white). I simply don’t visit that business or places like that due to hateful business practices. Like I said, it’s horrible business practices to do so (not to mention horrible lack of humanity). There will normally be backlash in the form of protests (boycott) and loss of business which makes the business go away. Just like in this case.

It is but (depending on local laws) a business has the right to refuse service to anyone. They can also choose what the price is for their goods. It is just a horrible business practice to alter these based on different demographics. The protected class thing is from the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission. An employer can’t discriminate based on protected classes. The business can do (mostly) what they want to a customer.

It varies from state to state. I’m not familiar with Wisconsin but if this occurred in Georgia where I am, it would be the crime of Sexual Assault and that carries up to 25 years in prison. Edit: I looked it up. In Wisconsin, this is called Sexual Assault by School Staff and carries up to 6 years. She only got 6 months because: When questioned by police the victim at first denied there was anything going on but later told them: “Well, it’s every kid’s dream to do a teacher.”

In some areas, Rape is legally only vaginal penetration (victim) by the suspect’s penis. GA is an example of this. Statutory rape and sodomy is either way but full Rape is female victim vagina only. The law.

Facing charges is a polite way of saying she was charged. It’s even in the second paragraph of the article. “Heidi Hallstein of Franklin Township is charged with sexual battery in an encounter that happened in January 2017, the sheriff’s office said.” Charges don’t mean conviction or sentenced though.

Correct. In some jurisdictions if you refuse to sign then that means you are refusing to appear in court or pay. The result is you can get arrested and taken to jail.

They (stand your ground laws) are clear in that you may use reasonable force to stop the assault. The fact that the camera man continues to laugh throughout the video shows that he did not feel threatened. You can’t just SAY you felt threatened as an excuse to kill someone. You started off good. This would be assault as she is making clear verbal threats towards the camera man and the camera. You would absolutely NOT be justified is using lethal force (at least in Georgia or surrounding states) because you would have to be in serious fear that the action you were stopping by force would have inflicted serious bodily harm or death. Nothing this person displayed would equate to that standard.
