It stacks on and draws in by making rational arguments about the nuance that is abandoned when we generalize about society. If it were all complete garbage from top to bottom, there wouldn’t be so many suckered in. And in an “ex” sub, we may drift towards either relapse or knee jerk opposite behavior patterns. 1	I feel bitter and resentful and I hate it. It’s trite and canned, but ‘those that mind don’t matter and those that matter don’t mind’ has a lot of truth in it. Don’t be afraid to discover yourself and be yourself and I believe you will find yourself on a path to meet accepting and like minded people. Self hatred is a poor motivator for self improvement, and a self improvement movement that makes their members hate themselves more and more as they follow the advice seems self defeating.
