Gotta maintain that balance doh.

The thing that kills me is they've done some legitimately great investigative journalism over the years and they don't sound like they did much due diligence on this story. If this turns out to be false they'll lose a ton of credibility and I'll have to look at them very differently.

More evidence should be demanded prior to any policy changes being made (and any made so far should be protested until it's established that there is a reasonable basis for them), but we shouldn't assume it to be false. Simply calling her a liar is not justice or respect for due process and it's a great way to ruin any credibility you might have in other peoples' eyes, even if they don't speak out forcefully in your favor.

Loss prevention can't do a damn thing to you unless they have you on film from the moment you pick something up until the time you walk out of the store. Much of the time stores don't let them do anything even then since they don't want to have to deal with this sort of bullshit. Odds are though if he had her on the ground they had her dead to rights and if that isn't the case they'll get crucified for it.

Anecdotes aren't strong evidence. Besides which I can almost guarantee you that woman is abusing testosterone. Men aren't twice as strong as women, but we're significantly (20-50%) stronger on average. Even at the highest levels of performance women lag well behind men in measures of strength.

I'm not downvoting you, but I would ask you to take a step back and look at your comment again. There's a thin line to walk when talking about suicide and I think I was already coming pretty close to crossing it. I can be pissed off at someone without actually wanting her to be dead and I'm not sure that comes across clearly in your comment. EDIT: Thanks dude.

The first thing I could find on DuckDuckGo. I think that the narratives that grow up around these faulty statistics are more harmful than the statistics themselves though. When even a website on the extreme right politically calls it "one of the most vile crime(sic) imaginable" and not only accept the 1 in 4 stat at face value but say they "would estimate that 60-70% of women experience rape", can a person honestly sit there and say we live in a rape culture?

Recognition that statutory rape remains statutory rape regardless of the gender of the victim or if they 'wanted it' would be a huge step. I think we're a ways away from that, but having HuffPo report it in this way is a big improvement over the 'hot teacher sex scandal' lists you often see.

“I didn’t see any way out of this situation,” she testified. “I made a decision that I was going to end my life and Jude’s life.” So then why didn't you end yours too? What, did you need somebody to do it for you like Jim Jones? To hell with her, I've seen kids with severe autism and downs syndrome. One of my uncles was mentally retarded. It doesn't matter if they aren't high-functioning, their lives still have value and this woman trying to use her son's disability and unproven assertions of ab…

The ruling is good, but the article reporting it unfortunately isn't. ...in a split decision that reversed two earlier rulings and prompted fears that dangerous offenders could avoid conviction. That biases the readers for the rest of the article and it's in the first sentence. I'm not saying that you need to be a sympathetic voice supporting everyone who opposes the preponderance of evidence standard in sexual assault cases, but at least don't bias your readers against those who are from the wo…

The person you're responding to never said he had to defend himself against men, only you said that. Why is it you assumed that he was talking about other men attacking him?

Again: why half? It's an arbitrary figure without any explained basis. Share != equal share.

Why is she entitled to half of his money? Simple question. Half seems like a pretty arbitrary number.

This has no business being here. Not only is this unrelated to men's rights, it also uncritically reports things in the most skewed way possible. The misleading statistics on gamer demographics (hint: men and women favor different genres) are only the start. EDIT: Also it appears the user who posted it is shadowbanned. Why is this here?

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
