Throughout antiquity, womens role was that of gatherers. This involves communicating locations and what to gather or not. It's also why women have better colour perception than men. Mens role was that of hunter/protector. The hunt required more visual signs of communication (don't spook the animals etc) and is why men have better visuo-spatial skills than women.

Agree with this. I know several women who looked/look better in their late 40's/early 50's then they did in their 20's/30's. Looks are nowhere near a guarantee of being healthy genetically, nor are they an indicator of personality.

If someone told you they were going to get ice cream today, and that was the only information you had to choose whether you were going to wear sunscreen or not, would you wear it? You're trying to isolate one side of a correlation. If this was a wager would you go with the better odds (.55) or the worse odds (.45)

No problem, I'm hung up because you have to be aware of the distinction between correlation and causation. See here They are not the same, and inferring they are is simplistic and can be dangerous. The data in this case tells us that any correlation is stronger in women than men, but that they are not neccessarily the cause. If you flip a predictor value ( .45) of a correlation they are connected, you also get the predictor value (.55) that they aren't. edit : for clarity

Pyschology is a social science. Studies rely on truthful responses from participants. I would suggest that the same study but a predictor value of 1 would prove causation. As it is you are more likely to predict the outcome of a coin toss (predictor value .5) than infidelity from n-count (predictor value .45)

I read the post, I understand the figures and what predictor variables are. Do you? My reply was a response to your reply. Go back and read your reply. The predictor value for men is just over half that of women. So the data also provides us with a clue about the correlation in men. And here is the rub, they are correlations not causations

I think there may be a problem with causation and correlation here. They can exist simultaneously, but correlation does not imply causation. Causation means one thing causes another—i.e. action A causes outcome B. Conversely, correlation is simply a relationship where action A relates to action B—but one event doesn’t necessarily cause the other event to happen. So there may be a correlation between high n-count and infidellity, but it's also not an indicator that it will happen (causation).
