Get some therapy my dude. You’d be surprised how helpful talking to someone can be. And I don’t mean your best bud after a fifth of whiskey.

Dude make it an opportunity about you. I was bummed to leave home too. But now that I have my own place, I can make it what I want. Got a cool beach theme going on, some good candles, it’s CLEAN, and it’s starting to feel like home.

I think many of us accept more responsibility than we should. If we played a part in the marriage falling apart, we should accept it, try to work on it (for the sake of follow on relationships), and make peace with ourselves over it. We also must realize that we can’t control other people’s actions. We can’t accept responsibility for something someone else did, and suffer guilt over it. We must make peace with that, too. But yeah, guilt sucks big time...

You just have to document it and have it prepared for presentation in court. If you have any witnesses who might appear, that would help.

Man I am sorry about your situation. If she has a conviction for those charges, I’d be HIGHLY surprised if she even got supervised visitation. That said, you can file a restraining order citing that incident, which can happen quickly. That will be significant ammo to keep her from getting any custody/visitation. If you don’t have a lawyer, you can’t afford not to...

My ex wife could not pass a Goodwill/thrift shop/yard sale without bringing something home we didn’t need because “it was too good of a deal.”

Divorce was finalized and I left as soon as she started to physically interfere with daily tasks (bathing kid, leaving for work/school, sleeping). Stayed at a friends house. Over two days got my most valuable things OUT of the house. New apt in 10 days. Had a friend help move essentials out, took only about 10-15% if the household items. Been here for 5 days now, and couldn’t love it more. Clean, no junk everywhere, kid has her own room finally.

Any chance you can video chat/ FaceTime with them during the week when you don’t have them. Even 10 mins might make a positive difference for you all.

Service was done by a third party at our house, while we were both there. My lawyer was not cheap, so I doubt there are any errors with service.

She was properly served. We were at home together.

Yep, sitting on the fence and think about jumping to the other side is pure hell. Just remember not to rush the decision and make it purely based on emotions. Love is a powerful drug...

Dude, please go check out a Nar-Anon meeting, it’s for family of drug addicts. Problem with an addiction is that it will ALWAYS come first, no matter how much love is in her heart for you/kids. It’s great that she’s getting treatment. I’m in the same boat, married 10 yrs with a 3 year old. Two DUIs and two arrests for drug possession, one assault, two CPS investigations, and thousands of wasted dollars, and she finally went to treatment. Except it’s too late for me. I hope she stays clean and ca…

Bro you gotta get your financial priorities straight. Maybe hold off on dating/buying shit for other women until you are good at taking care of yourself first. Download a budget template for Excel. Add in your monthly paychecks, and deduct MANDATORY expenses (rent, utilities, insurance, etc...). Cancel your cable, stop eating out for lunch/dinner.

But any changes to a custody order would have to be in the new state unless one of us still lives in CA? I’m likely going to have 100% custody and moving to another state.

Got a lawyer. I think the cost will be justified.

Lawyered up today. Filing petition for dissolution, request for order (100% custody), and a temporary restraining order.

Do the courts make any kind of interim/custody decision before the initial hearing? From my understanding, after filing we get a court date 6 months out. Nothing happens until then.
