If you look at a lot of the breakdowns around the net and in articles about that film the prevailing analysis is that Tom is a "nice guy" and abusive to Summer for wanting a relationship which she initially said she didn't want, but then does everything a gf would.

In a nut shell yes - thats the plot. She was never that into him and it always him chasing her the whole time. The movie ends with a throwing save where he meets another woman named Autumn giving off a ray of hope that things will work out for him.

Ah yes the movie where the main character dates a girl who isnt into him, he does everything he possibly can for her while she remains eh, and then is dumped while she almost immediately moves on to another guy and gets pregnant, but its the main guy is made out to be the bad guy.

And this is where the collision occurs. As age increases the pool of single men being the first guy increase whereas for women the opposite is true. So no Sheryl, this is terrible advice. It’s called planning ahead instead of one day waking up in your mid-30s single and alone and the prospect of being committed to going lower and lower. In every elastic market forces adjust. Dating is no different. I’d posit that having to share the same guys on a rotating basis with an endless stream of other girls will get to enough of them in time eventually the change the dynamic. We are somewhere in the beginning to middle of the cycle though which is why it appears hopeless. The current market is pricing out a lot of quality men and should rubber band back. Im not talking about the neck beard fedora wearing wow guy

Super impressive source on that research. /s But given the state of things the issue is rising with no solution so of course extreme views on the topic and the number of people into them are on the upswing. An actual academic study in the UK showed something like 60+% of men are now sexless in college. Had you said that to someone like me who went to college in the early 2000s I would have called you a liar.
