Yup that’s the reality of marriage. That’s why I say Never Again !

My son is 6 years old and we have been doing for 18 months and for the most part it sucks. It’s hard to plan things long term and if one week is shot because of an illness or bad weather, you have to wait to do those activities when it’s your turn again. For the kid it probably doesn’t matter but you move to a different home each week seems cruel. But then again they might not care at this age. One way it got better for me of the week he is not with me, I try and get all my personal things out o…

You don’t have to worry about anything because as you stated, nothing was documented. The only thing you need to worry about is alimony if your second wife is looking for that. Also don’t go to a judge. Just get a mediation done if that is really even necessary since you mentioned this was uncontested, sign the papers and then you are done.

I know exactly how you feel. Just give it time. Tell people or talk about it when it comes more naturally. One thing to note, people will ask what happened and whole thing about I love you but not in love with you will sound weird and not really a reason for divorce but then again the whole death do us part doesn’t mean anything to women nowadays. Overall people will understand your situation and some will make a judgement. But it doesn’t matter what they think. Just give it time and nothing sha…

I am in an equitable state and it’s going to be 50/50 anyway. It’s bullshit but that’s how it will be decided anyway. You might have to worry about alimony but because it was 6 years you might be able to escape that. Take the 50/50 and run.

We made enough money and we have 50/50 custody of my kid. That’s why no child support.

If your company has open enrollment window open, then you can drop her but only after you tell her. Try and get it in writing that she is aware and agrees. If your open enrollment period is not open you have to wait for a qualifying event which means that you have to wait till your divorce is over.

It’s not that different in America too. In the end, marriage is a waste of time especially for men.

You will lose 50% regardless of kids but realize if your spouse has retirement funds also so you can offset it. I negotiated to give up more cash to save my “tax free growth” cash. Think long term instead short term when it comes to that.

Brother. You need to wake the fuck up and look in the mirror and know that you are lucky to be alive and how all the world’s pleasures and blessing are waiting for you. Women come and go, but you were always there. It was just another chapter of your life and the book hasn’t ended. It just getting good. Hang in there and just keep saying to yourself that you are destined for greatness. It’s God’s promise.

Possibly but you would need to check with a lawyer which you mentioned you wanted to avoid. But in a state like California I think you need one because it can get complicated so perhaps you can get a consultation done that is a lot less expensive or even free. All lawyers offer it. I mention complicated because you helped with the business, which might have caused you to take a step back for your own career. In other words it would be hard to demonstrate a separation of assets because you worked…

This is normal brother and thank you for your service. Shows that you are a loyal and caring to your family which unfortunately your wife blew up. Stay connected with your high school friend and let her heal you a little bit if she makes you feel better but don’t get into another relationship. Time will heal.

Congrats my man !!!! I settled my case also with no alimony and no child support. I lost my house only because I was anticipating getting laid off which eventually did happen. So it was good to get rid of it. She took some cash but at least I am free. Congrats once again. Best of luck.

The reality it that it doesn’t matter. 9/10 cases are settled out of court anyway. If your case is going I front of the judge then chances are you’ve spent too much money on lawyers. The judge is going to go by precedent which usually means 50-50 with a remote chance he might go 5% here or there but it’s unlikely. Remember it’s not a criminal case in which you’re trying to prove something wrong or right The judge will just do it very businesslike and split it. Child custody will is a different s…

One, you need to get the fuck out of that place. The one comment has a point. A lot of judges frowned upon dating until your divorce is over so that might work out for you. Two, after you move out, you need to work on yourself work out, get a hobby further your education, depending on how old you are to focus on making your life the best you could be. Third, whoever your wife dates or meets or whatever it’s all happening from a place of insecurity so whoever she ends up with it’s definitely not …

My ex-hoe and I don’t really have drop off. I pick up my son from school everything other Friday, he stays a week and then the ex picks him up every other Friday. I never see the hoe and it’s so much better.

I regret my marriage. There were signs and ignored them. Now 12 years later I am divorced with a 6 year old son. I regret having my son also only because he won’t have a traditional family I always wanted for him and he has to go back and forth weekly due to the custody arrangements. If you have doubts, get out now and move on. Don’t worry about her feelings because she will leave in a heartbeat if she had too.

The biggest thing is try and avoid alimony which considering you were only married 4 years should not be an issue but state laws are arcane so double check with your lawyer how much you have to pay and for how long. Based on the income disparity between you two at the current time, you will have to pay child support which some of it will go to fund her lifestyle. Therefore your main priority needs to be to get her to work. If you could demonstrate that she has the income potential when she start…

Not sure about Canada but in the US you would be looking at relinquishing 50% of your net assets, maybe alimony depending on how much she makes and depending on custody, child support. Welcome to hell. Also if you paid for everything it doesn’t matter in the US.

If you bought the house when you were married she will get 50%. The court doesn’t care that you made the down payment or made the mortgage payments or maintenance. It sucks but that the way the system is. I am writing this from my painful experience.

Sorry man you are going to through this but the one thing you need to realize is that TIME is the ultimate healer and revealer for everything. In other words, your ex can get diagnosed with cancer then what? Second time marriages have a 70% divorce rate, she can get laid off her job tomorrow then what? In other words, don’t think about her journey (because it can end in a heartbeat) but instead focus on your journey. Get healthy physically and mentally first and make that a priority. Develop new…

This too shall pass but let’s make sure you don’t lose yourself. All the advice here so far is great. What are you trying to accomplish ? The judge will settle everything 50/50 in terms of assets 99% of the time. Just settle and move on with your life. This why marriage for the most part is a scam for men.

I am in GA too but I got saved from alimony. In a weird cosmic way, I spent 7 years of my 12 year marriage supporting her getting her education so that she can have a great career. But there is no set definition. Your lawyer should be able to tell you what judges normally do but I heard from my lawyer that if your wife is able to work then it’s usually 1 year of alimony for every 3. But if she has a degree and can find work it might be less. Also I am in Fulton county. Best bet, try and save the…

What state are you in? GAL is a waste. If you have been doing 50/50, judge will just do that. A mediator will do just that too probably. I had a GAL and she basically fucked me. As a guy your fucked either way but if you have been doing 50/50, stay happy that you might get that. Prove the adultery and you don’t have to pay alimony.

Lots to unpack here my brother. One, you need to get your health back together. DO NOT LET anyone or any situation ever lead you to smoke or drink because that’s on you. Two, you need to plan this starting with getting a 60 min consultation with a lawyer (it’s usually free). Here is what you need to understand. A) alimony, how long and how much do you need to pay. Good news is that you were only married 6 years but you might have to pay for 6 years which is not bad but find out if it’s more or l…

One, you are one fucked up guy to even allow this to happen. Seems like your wife instigated it to and you fell for it. Two, infidelity doesn’t matter of Alabama is a not fault state. You might get saved from alimony if you can prove infidelity but chances are slim you can prove it especially if she has a text that says you were okay with her seeing other men (to me dating meaning fucking) unless you are the naive. I mean why would she ask to date other men? To play cheese or to help with tax ad…

If you have no threat of paying child custody and there is no threat of paying her alimony, I would walk away asap. Try the therapy route to cover your bases so there are no regrets later in life. If nothing comes of that I would walk away. Life is too short for this kind of shit.

Nothing you can do. Move on and no contact. She is going to fuck you up on your next relationship. Not worth it. Let her find her way. Lesson for all is to check out the family and who they are before you make a decision to marry. Asians do this well and we should all learn from that.

I would avoid divorce at all costs. Do the math and you will end up giving more than 1/2 your paycheck in alimony or child support. Co-parenting is a bitch and next to impossible. Unless there was adultery or some sort of abuse in your marriage, you should try and save it.

It’s going to be 50/50 unless you bought the house before marriage and you are the title alone. Sucks.

2

Keep us posted but here is the thing, 90% of cases don’t go to trial so perhaps you might not be able to implement information. But if you do go to court then hopefully it’s useful. Usually these cases are solved with mediator who might be a former judge.

It’s a premarital asset. As long as you didn’t add her to the title you should be good. Talk to a lawyer though. The rental income is just that, income. Just like your job. That shouldn’t have anything to do with anything. The property is under your name which you acquired before marriage. Fuck that cash out refi. Hahahahaa.

Dude, fuck all that. Until the divorce laws are changed, the best course of action is to never under any circumstances get married. There is no purpose of it. And if you do, there should be a prenup. Brother, first take a deep breath. Relax. You are about to embark on a journey that is going to change the trajectory of your life and your children, extended family etc. Gather the evidence etc. but more important, you need to talk to the lawyer about the POTENTIAL amount of money this is going to cost you in terms of alimony, child support etc. The one thing you need to be ready for is that half of everything is going go to her. Even if you provided for the entire marriage and she didn’t work …

Don’t waste time. Just do 50/50 and end it. I just ended my mediation two days ago. The only thing I did strategically was give more cash than retirement funds. Cash in the long term as an instrument sucks because of taxes. Retirement funds grow tax free. In terms of debt, split that and in terms of custody, do 50/50. Don’t try to commingle financials and custody together, meaning, don’t say that you’ll take more money to give her custody, that’s not going look good because it’ll show that you c…

I am in Georgia which is an equitable state. I can tell you from first-hand experience that equitable means absolutely nothing in the end. The judge is just going to divide everything 50-50 maybe you might get 52/48 but essentially it’s going to be 50-50. You could’ve paid all the bills made all the money you will still have to pay 50-50. It sucks but that’s the reality of the situation so basically at the end of the day get ready to pay and move on.

You can’t do anything. Unless there is a meaningful change in habit where your wife is not keeping her time it will remain 50/50. Also God has nothing to do with your court matter unfortunately. Women are fuckin weird when it comes to that. They move on like nothing happened only to have the effects later on. How much money is it ? If it’s significant in terms of percentage to the final settlement then simply ask for the refund but then the issue will be that is an asset that needs to be divided. If anything to make it simple, just ask for 1/2 the deposit and let her keep the other 1/2 of the deposit.

Look better is what context? The judges don’t care and in the end won’t remember your case in 48 hours. Also financials has nothing to do with child custody in case you are referring to that ? As soon I found out the Judges don’t give a shit when it comes to financials, ie, 99% of the time it’s 50/50 even in an equitable state like Georgia, I have been wanting to mediate and settle everything. The problem is that my wife didn’t realize that even though we had high incomes and lived the good life, that lifestyle resulted in a lot of debt. So in my view it’s all assets - liabilities = equity divided by 1/2. Problem is that she wants the 1/2 the assets and leave the debt to me. BUT it do…

Boom! Exactly. Perfectly stated!!! All men (usually) just need to protect themselves. At the end of the day, marriage is a LEGAL contract. Love and all that bullshit put aside. In the end it’s a LEGAL contract. So you really need to protect yourself through a prenup, etc.

I wouldn’t date until your divorce is final. Most lawyers will tell you that.

Lawyer fees will eat it up. Fuck the 8k and move on. Pretend you blew it on a strip club. Her getting the 8k which is morally not right, will hit her back in the shape of karma that always pays back with interest.

If your divorce final, nothing you can do. Women are fucked up like that. My suggestion, make yourself unstoppable financially, physically, mentally, etc for your kids and live the one life God gave you.

She can’t quash a subpoena which is a court order. Take it to court and they will get it from her. There is a worksheet and when you plug in the new numbers, you will either owe her or she will owe you. You just need to modify it.

WTF. Are you seriously struggling with this. You should walk away from this disgusting woman that basically disrespected you. Walk away but before you do cum in her face.

Best thing is to contact a lawyer. In terms of child support, if you didn’t take legal custody of him then you are off the hook it seems. If she works and make the same as you then you are off the hook on that also. If you make more you might have to pay some but since you were married for 7 years it might be nothing. If you have evidence of her cheating then she might be toast and get nothing at all!! Your 401k, any contributions before your marriage are yours and only yours. The contributions …

Amazing post. In my experience, I was the captain of ship. Guided the direction of our lives to the point that we became part of the 1%, ie, supported her financially for her to get her advanced degree put myself through graduate school etc. But in the end, she just seem not to love me and wanted a divorce that came out of no where. We are in the middle of the divorce now. I am 47, she is 42 and we have a 5 year old. Bizarre. But I will take your post to heart as I move on but just like the holo…

I am assuming the passport is made. What country? Is the country on the state department list for “unsafe for Americans to travel” you might have an argument. Otherwise let it go to court. By the time the shit is decided, whatever reason she had might go away. Also, what any of this on the parenting plan, ie, travel abroad the the stipulations? Hang in there bro!

Your lawyer would the best source of information but from my understanding, it’s 50/50. You need to gather all assets and minus the liabilities and divide that 50/50. If she wants the house, she just needs to buy you out. Something is missing or not right if you think you are getting pennies. Same for the car. She needs to buy you out of any equity that might be in it.

None out there. At least that’s been my experience. But I won’t give up, just going to take a break for now and work on myself.

Get a prenup. End of story. You have a lesson right in front from your dad. Don’t be stupid or idealistic and get a prenup.
