ten·et [ten-it; Brit. also tee-nit] noun any opinion, principle, doctrine, dogma, etc., especially one held as true by members of a group, or movement. con·sen·sus noun, plural -sus·es. 1. majority of opinion: The consensus of the group was that they should meet twice a month. 2. general agreement or concord; harmony. See, large numbers = consensus. Just because a large number of people agree means it is a tenet. You feel really stupid now, right? Dictionary.com While you have been having a hiss…

They are large organizations because a large number of feminists feel well represented and send them money. The large number of supporters makes them mainstream. That's what mainstream means. You say they are corrupt because they helped to make the argument you are flogging look insipid and you are embarrassed.

There is no rape culture. The culture of masculinity is one that defends, protects, and rescues women. If you want to look at crime culture, then you will find both genders well-represented. You will also find that women are about 9 times less likely to be victims of violence. That sounds like a privilege. One they have because of the culture that defends, protects, and rescues them. But if you insist on looking only at rape, you will see that women have their own forms of rape, like paternity f…

How did you determine that black students are not given preference at selective colleges? How did you determine I am racist? Yes, stereotypes supported by facts are useful. When a gazelle sees a lion the gazelle sterotypes the lion as dangerous even though the lion might not be hungry, might be blind, or might just want to be friends. In the same way a soldier stereotypes a person in the enemy's uniform, even though the person in the enemy's uniform might be a friendly spy. Stereotyping based on…

Yes, you just said it: "you don't know anything," "Sorry but you can't decide,", and "Sorry you can't tell the difference." Sorry, but Republicanism isn't (nearly) the same thing as the Republican party, and therefore your point is invalid. Sorry you don't know anything about government. What was your point about republicanism? What form of republicanism? The US political party or the representative form of democracy? In what ways are they different? How did you measure these differences? Who sa…

Women get plenty of credit they deserve here. I have never felt like I did not get due respect here. Women merely don't get the unearned respect they want here. Their position is reduced to the extent that it should be, not more so far as I can tell. There are no inequalities based on natural differences. There are no inequalities that harm women. You could say there are differences. But these differences are not based on "natural differences" if I understand your meaning "genetic or physical tr…

And the overwhelming majority of eligible voters in your state are women, so the 60-70% men they sent to Olympia are the ones passing the pro-feminist legislation. And yet they still say men are patriarchal, misogynists! You see women getting advantages, but not as a remedy for disadvantages. They are getting them because they are MORE powerful. The weak seldom get the spoils of war in the state house.

This is not sarcasm, this is true. Feminist Epistemology (see Women's Ways of Knowing, for example) states that empirical, rational, and positivistic thought are patriarchal and oppressive of women, that they are the tools that men use to abuse women. This dominant feminist theory says that a thing is true of a woman feels it is true, that no other foundation is required, and can thus be used to support the thesis that women-only scholarships are a form of equality, or that they are a form of ab…

Look at this! MuFu finally ran away! She's already over in r/feminism complaining about woman-hating (and doing the same in a video-game thread!). If you don't believe me, check her history. Funny! Nobody said that. Men and women should have equal opportunity, and they do. After that, we should accept differing lifestyle choices, not force careers on people. Women already get paid MORE for equal work. If you want them to have equal earnings, all they have to do is work equal hours. But they would give up free time and family time. Do you really want women to be forced to do that just so you can claim we are equal by a ridiculous measure? Or do you want to force men to work and earn less? T…

No, nobody said any such thing. Why not answer the question about under-representation? Do you want equal representation in industrial accidents, kill more women? Do you want equal representation in colleges, kick out women to make room for men? Do you want equal representation in speech pathology, fire women to make room for men who are clearly less interested? Do you think men don't have equal opportunity in speech pathology similar to your believe that women don't have equal opportunity in en…

Since an overwhelming majority of eligible voters are women, and only two congressmen can be elected without the consent of women, women got the representatives they wanted. That is choice, not discrimination. Are you saying women's choices should be nullified and they should be forced to have female reps when they want the current ones?

Those jobs also require sacrifice, risk, and responsibility. Are you saying it is urgent that mothers who prefer to stay home with the kids risk their life savings on a new business, work 60 hours a week, and carry the weight of meeting a payroll until they die prematurely? Is that urgent? Or maybe you want to achieve equality by forbidding men who want to do so from doing so. Is that it, you want to take away choices for men, or force women to behave differently?

Unless it is because there are few people interested in being part of a field, in which case it is a choice made under circumstances of equal opportunity, not discrimination. There are a large number of fields in which there are few males. Do any of them have male-only scholarships or AA for men? And are feminists demanding these things in the interest of equality? Are you? Are you demanding that females support husbands that stay at home? Is that urgent? Is it urgent that we order women into co…

Why would you be sorry that people make a well reasoned assumption supported by the facts?
/r/MensRights12/07/11 06:42 PM

On the average, you did. Why should that not be discussed. Why is a factual and accurate statement hurtful? If it is hurtful that black applicants and females get selected over more qualified white and male applicants, why don't you join the fight for equality and end affirmative action?

Getting ten times more federal money for medical research. Being parents after a divorce instead of visitors. Getting lower crimimal sentences for the same crimes. Getting more money and perks for the same work. Getting women-only scholarships. Being excused from conscription. Getting lower car insurance rates in spite of making more claims for more money. It's worse than that. Female privileges are examples of male abuse of women, "benevolent sexism". Male disadvantages are examples of male abuse of women, "Misogyny hurts men, too". Female disadvantages are examples of male abuse of women, "We make the lifestyle choice to work part-time, thus earn less money, while taking money from men who work full time to improve our lifestyles because we are following a patriarchal cultural mandate to select into the role of lower wage-earner." Male advantage…

Is the core tenet of feminism equality? Like abolishing women-only scholarships? And conscipting women? And equality in criminal sentencing? And shared custody? And equal funding for medical research? Is that what feminists are fighting for in YOUR mainstream? Are they protesting violence against men in media, and over-medication of boys with misdiagnosed ADD? If these are the core tenets, then show me one article in Ms. Magazine that demands equality. Or do you think Ms. missed ALL of these cor…

do you really believe that "female privilege is benevolent sexism and therefore wrong, but female quotas and female-only scholarships are right" is a core tenet of feminism? Yes. I have no doubt you studied something quite a lot and still don't know much about it! You think fringe feminism does not represent the term any more than mainstream feminism? I thought you said that mainstream feminism could not be described because it is too fluid? I didn't know the Special Olympics had a debate team. Good luck, I hope you win a ribbon.

Feminism is as much an organization as fundamentalist Protestants. While there is some fluidity among the latter, certain common characteristics can be confidently averred: They believe in the Virgin Birth, they are opposed to gay marriage, et cetera. Likewise, feminists are defined by their organizations, which are only fluid to a similar extent, like NOW, AAUW, League of Women Voters, and their publications. Insofar as there are organizations that subscribe to feminism, feminism can be defined…

You didn't just ask for citations, you said, "angry" and "hysterical", "horrifying" and represents "imaginary" feminists. Now you add "obnoxious" "inane bullshit" and more filth. You owe Celda an apology. Why were you COMPLETELY SATISFIED with the opinion of one anonymous internet poster in the form of finallyfeminism101, but bitterly combative toward the opinion of Celda? Do you really think it is "angry" and "hysterical" to say that feminists support women-only scholarships? Asking for evidence is a denial when it is expressed in the context in which you used it -- married to your accusations that the original statement is "hysterical", "bigoted", "horrifying" and represents "imaginary" feminists. You owe Celda an apology.

You have doubts that feminists support quotas and women-only scholarships and need a source? Okay, r/feminism, r/2X, r/women, NOW, Ms. Foundation, AAUW, League of Women Voters, Congressional Women's Caucuses, every women's student union and women's studies department (All of these are feminists, none are imaginary.) It is not a strawman if it is true, and having or not having a citation does not affect whether or not it is true. I noticed you did not give any contradictory citations. Even if it …

This is more frustrating: women already have nearly 50% more seats in colleges, and it is the lawful written and enforced policy of nearly all colleges, including public universities, to take more seats away from better qualified men and give them to less qualified women, paid for by hundreds of millions of dollars in scholarships that I can get and you can't. Reserving money or seats for the disadvantaged class is illegal, so you can't do anything to remedy the problem.

Use a more up to date example: In the Iraq wars, one gender was over 20 times more likely to die. Only one gender was ordered into the most dangerous combat occupations, the other gender died only in accidents. If a woman dies, it is an accident, we order only men to die.

The problem is that feminists don't have any empirical evidence of disadvantage, while there is a mountain of empirical evidence that contradicts them. It is not true that discrimination against racial minorities is worse than discrimination against women because that statement presumes there is discrimination against women. There is not. In what way do women get fewer opportunities than men? Do they have fewer opportunities to be conscripted? To be ordered into the most dangerous combat occupat…

It is not accurate to say, "not nearly as bad as in once was." It is accurate to say there is NO systemic discrimination against women in the US today. Further, it is accurate to say there is wholesale discrimination against men in many aspects of US law, economics and social life today. As to how bad "it once was," it could be said that it was never particularly bad for women. While it is true that we had fewer rights and privileges in the past, those were balanced by fewer responsibilities and…

Men do not "get paid" more, they choose to EARN more on a playing field that is tilted toward women. Yes, men are more than 17 times more likely to die at work. They constitute a similar percentage of workplace accidents that do not result in death. Yet they take far fewer sick days, make fewer insurance claims, including worker's compensation, and so on (relative to events), meaning women receive a disproportionate share of employer-funded healthcare (government healthcare also, but that's anot…

There is no discrimination against women with respect to quotas and scholarships in the US today. Women are almost 50% more likely to earn a college degree. What do we need to be compensated for? Women do NOT earn less than men for equal work. They earn MORE than men for equal work. Women earn, on average 77% of the earnings of men, but work 75% as many hours. When controlling for factors like experience, tenure, advanced degrees, and especially the much larger perquisites given to women, we ear…
